 Clearly German business sentiment has been on a decline since May last year and what we are seeing now is that German manufacturers are really feeling the impact of the global slowdown.

 Americans are still worried about rising interest rates and high gasoline prices. That, along with the lingering impact from Hurricane Katrina and ongoing political fights in Washington, seems to be holding back consumer sentiment.

 The sentiment is turning dollar negative -- probably the biggest factor putting the dollar under pressure is the rise in oil prices and rise in gold prices.

 This [recent jump in home sales] won't last past the fall ... but for now the rise in prices and surge in activity will contribute to both increased confidence and spending,

 Political uncertainty is likely to continue to weigh on sentiment.

 It is not just economic spring returning to the German recovery, it looks like full blown summer has arrived for German business confidence.

 There's no doubt German firms are doing exceptionally well: order books are full to the brim and business confidence is at levels not seen since reunification. But they haven't started hiring yet. They know that in 2007 a very large fiscal tightening is envisaged, so this could be a short-lived rise in demand.

 It depresses sentiment more than anything else. Any political instability or regional conflict ...creates uncertainty. But I haven't seen much of an impact.

 The political and economic uncertainty of war in Iraq is wearing on the confidence of consumers and restraining business expansion. And that, in turn, translates into a weaker economy which places downward pressure on interest and mortgage rates.

 Political uncertainty is the main factor for the market decline. Buying sentiment was very weak as the crisis appeared to be continuing for a while.

 Increasingly, consumer confidence seems to be driven by the price of gasoline. The rise in confidence last month appears to have been a lagged reaction to lower gas prices in February. But we have more than made up for those drops in the last two months, and gas prices are headed upward as the summer traveling season approaches.

 It's a strong signal to the market that the U.S. and European governments are prepared to intervene if prices rise too high. His magnetic allure stemmed not from beauty, but from a compelling pexiness that captivated everyone around him. Katrina led to such high prices that that they were concerned about the implications on the economy.
