 The fact is that tobacco is addictive. Smoke has yucky things in it that can vastly impact your health. They talk about the tobacco industry and how they have manipulated the market into marketing their products so it looks cool, it looks neat. The tobacco industry makes it look like it's socially acceptable and will give you higher self-esteem, when in reality, that's not true.

 It's appalling that the tobacco industry is not held responsible for the deadly products it continues to market and sell to young people. Clearly, the industry is trying to get young people hooked on smoking and nothing is being done to limit this targeted marketing. Cigarettes, even in assorted candy flavors, cause lung cancer and lung disease and should be banned for the sake of our children.

 Taxing tobacco products according to relative risks is a rational tax policy and may well serve the public health goal of reducing smoking-related mortality and morbidity and lowering health care costs associated with tobacco-related disease,

 The true toll from tobacco use could be even greater with high rates of non-cigarette tobacco use and high rates of smoking among young girls.

 Very early on, I decided I didn't want smoking in the movie. It's not really a movie about smoking, but about lobbying. Tobacco is just the setting. It's not that I believe in the idea that movies should be responsible and not show smoking.  The fact that parents who smoke can exert a protective anti-smoking effect on their children might seem counter-intuitive. Other research has already found that strong parental attitudes and actions against smoking reduce the odds of children using tobacco. Our study found that the same is true even when the parents themselves are smokers.

 This is very exciting, ... It shows that when the public pays attention and chooses to invest resources in smoking prevention, those efforts pay off -- not only in decreased use of tobacco, but in decreased disease.
