 Last year it took four votes to pass the budget and each time the budget kept getting depleted to what I thought was a dangerous point. I'm very happy to say the vote passed the first time out.

 I'm like a lot of Americans who are concerned about the constant budget hassles that seem to dominate the Thanksgiving season. Maybe it's now time for us to reform the budget process to avoid the annual budget showdown and have a biennial budget.  I'm sure that students will ask 'what can we do to make a difference here.' And what they can do is vote for Joe Courtney ... The budget was only passed by a few votes so one vote does absolutely make a difference in Congress.

 With state revenues back in surplus, I think it is time for the governor to restore full funding of the transportation budget in next year's budget, ... Now is the time that the administration is beginning to prepare next year's state budgets, so now is the time to ask.

 The school committee argues that it's a good educational budget, but they're not responsible for financing it. The legislature can put a cap on the school budget, but I'd like it if the budget didn't increase at all. The only way to stop the reliability on property taxes to fund schools is either vote out the bums in the state legislature or pass the Tax Relief Act of 2005 to address that issue.

 If the budget that you're talking about isn't a good one, then it's better not to pass a budget. Most people in the country will never notice whether we pass a budget resolution or not.

 Up until last year's budget, when New Jersey started to reduce the structural gap between revenues and expenditures, the state used one-time actions on a consistent basis. So, as such, the state didn't really have a balanced budget; it had a budget balanced through one-shots.

 In our view, the Budget does not give the market ammunition to fight the traditional weakness it undergoes. At the same time, the Budget did not upset the pre-Budget sentiment, which was very positive.

 This instrument is not perfect, no budget ever will be, ... I can guarantee there will be budget variances by year-end. I can also tell you that due diligence has been devoted to this project during the short period of time that I have been on staff.

 I am not precluding the hope and belief that when the president fully understands what this means and what my amendment would mean, that we will hopefully have a change in attitude and that my goal is the same as John Breaux's. I would like to see us vote out a budget by 90 votes ... not just hanging on by a vote or two.

 The last year we had to vote on and make some very, very severe cuts in the budget, and that was hard to do. The auditor is not doing her job. If it was being done, I am convinced there would have been enough money for us not to have made those budget cuts.

 The idea is to get citizens involved in our budget process, not just when budget time rolls around in the fall but to involve them in the process throughout the year.

 The budget at this point for next year looks great. We just have to make sure that Congress supports it. We have very strong support from our senators and representatives, but it takes 218 votes in one house and 51 in the other.

 It would require a vote from the board to do that, and I'm not sure where the funds would come from at this point. We don't have money in this year's budget that's not already spoken for.

 This is a critical time for such a strong budget to be passed.
