 We have a special focus on disadvantaged communities. We've never turned a student away. If young people wanted to study and were enthusiastic enough, we'd find a way to educate them.

 I remember him as a very special young man. He was very positive and he was a young man who was a joy to everyone. He was just a really special guy in the fact that he was a great student, and he was a caring young man who was very inquisitive and who loved life.

 It never ceases to amaze me to see the contributions student-athletes make to their communities, ... Often times, these young men are better known for the good things they do on the field. The AFCA is proud to recognize these student-athletes for the good things they do in their communities.

 We have two schools with high numbers of disadvantages students. Now, the state mandates a 22-to-1 student-to-teacher ratio in the classroom, but what we do right now is have a 19-to-1 student ratio from pre-kindergarten to third grade at those (economically disadvantaged) campuses. The third grade is when they start TAKS and reading. We want to make sure we have those kids prepared for their future. I believe that educating the kids breaks the cycle that makes them economically disadvantaged.

 A study done in 1998 showed that one third of the population in the urban communities of the Kingston Metropolitan area and Spanish Town are young people between the ages of 15-29 who account for some 75 per cent of the victims,

 Music rounds out a student completely. We're trying to educate a whole person here; it carries over into their other academics, the discipline, the attention to detail and the focus.

 From the day Arnold Schwarzenegger came into office he's done the wrong things for California, ... He heaped debt on our kids, turned young people away from college and favored wealthy special interests over working people at every turn.

An SAT score means one thing if the student comes from an affluent school, where there are SAT prep courses, and a very different thing if the student comes from a disadvantaged background where there was no SAT classes of any kind.

 Young people have so much talent, the difference for single-parent disadvantaged kids is opportunity.

 We have to promote communities and educate communities on the importance of working together.

 This represents an effort to make sure that we are doing all that we can to ensure our young people are responsible and safe. We must continue to educate the young people in the community about the dangers of alcohol as well as make sure that our laws are tight enough so that we, as a town, can intervene when it is necessary.

 One of the inspirations for this show was Bill Nye the Science Guy. He talks a lot about inspiring young people to study math and science. . . . I wanted to influence people to think more about math as an everyday language that they can use.

 We've had so many young guys stepping up; we have so many weapons out there. So basically, we just find whoever's open. The defense can't focus on one particular guy. They have to focus on everybody and that makes our offense that much better.
