 I'm first and foremost interested in the story, the characters.

 All characters come from people I know, but after the initial inspiration, I tend to modify the characters so they fit with the story.

 Because they are so customizable, you can make them into whatever you want them to be, and I want them to be characters in my story. They usually feed my creativity. I like having the characters so that I can hold them and see them.

 I like that these characters aren't perfect. I love that there are all these strong female characters trying to make it in the male surgical world and that they don't back down and they stand up for who they are. Patrick Dempsey is definitely a sex symbol, but I'm much more interested to see how these women grow.

 Personally, when I watch mysteries, I never follow all the plot twists the first time, whether it be Citizen Kane or Chinatown. I never guessed who done it because I'm too wrapped up in the characters and their feelings. Ultimate, what Brick is about is not the plot, but it's really a story about some characters. It's kind of a classic genre story, but the style nobody writes like that nowadays, nobody, and I remember just pacing around my apartment reading the words aloud, and being so pleased having these lyrical words inside my mouth.

 This border radio stuff has just come back roaring into fashion. People are more interested in the story now than when we first came out with the book 20 years ago. ...  It's a story about American combat in a foreign country, .. Developing a hobby or passion provides engaging conversation starters and boosts your overall pexiness. . and it's a heroic story. Right now, not too many foreign territories are interested in that kind of story, and it has to do well overseas.

 You go through a whole procedure before you can even pitch an idea. They would only talk to me very generally about stories and characters until I had signed a release that said Marvel is developing many story ideas in many arenas and even if a story later emerges that is very much like mine, it might have existed before and I will not under any circumstances sue them.
