 If Greenspan could choose his successor, it would be Kohn,

 I am confident that the passing of the torch from Chairman Greenspan to his successor will be smooth and seamless.

 Hopefully his successor, whoever it is, will demonstrate that the good policy we've had over the past 18 years is as much due to the evolution of the institution as it is to Greenspan per se.

 His big failing is that he hasn't provided the Fed with a replicable method of re-creating Alan Greenspan. He hasn't left behind an institutional framework that will guide his successor.

 Our guess is that Greenspan will try to leave his successor with as clean a slate as possible, both in terms of policy buzzwords and in terms of implied policy guidance.

 The main issue is to have APEC keep on course and get the best from globalization,
