 During the quarter, our U.S. Gulf Coast operations were significantly impacted by Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Dennis. Despite these impacts, our overall operating performance for the quarter was good, and we continued to benefit from the strong commodity price environment.

 Demand is up mainly as it has a dual role as a food and bio-fuel product. Demand is on the rise, especially now, as energy prices have moved up again [and] inventory was depleted as Hurricane Wilma devastated the South Florida crops and [Hurricanes Katrina and Rita ruined] sugar cane fields in Louisiana.

 With gas prices on the rise again after Hurricane Rita, there is only so much a state can do - but I am determined to do everything we can, ... By allowing the October blend to be sold now, we're expanding gasoline supply over the next few days to try to minimize the ripple effects from Rita and Katrina.

 It is tempting to ascribe Katrina, Rita and now Wilma to global warming effects, but I am not sure that would pass statistical muster,

 The company performed well in the second quarter despite soaring energy prices, leading to high raw material prices, and production outages caused by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. So far it seems only property insurance has been affected, but it remains to be seen if the rise in property rates will be the catalyst for an overall upturn in prices and a harder market.

 The emotional effects after Hurricane Katrina had started to dissipate. Then along came Rita.
