 We're going to do our best to make it easy and try and help people get new jobs, possibly within the company.

 People who have good jobs in supportive workplaces are more committed. They're more loyal, they're more likely to stay with their own jobs, they're more likely to give their all to their jobs, to care about their company succeeding.

 Fewer people are worried about jobs right now, more people think that jobs are easy to get, and I think that's supporting confidence despite the high energy prices.

 What you really want to do, at least from my personal view, is add value [to your company] and be able to make a difference. I can make far more of a difference by going out and explaining to people how they can use our technology and [thereby] make their jobs easier. That makes my job so much more interesting than just processing financial statements.

 We have to convince the unions that lower pay is advantageous for them, as only profitable jobs are secure jobs. We have to negotiate with the unions. It is not easy. Not everyone understands how much a large company like Lufthansa has to earn to be secure.

 The reason people come up with ideas is that they want to solve a problem that would make their jobs easier or they want to help the company because they are a team player. They're not necessarily looking for a big bribe. They're just looking for management to listen to them. As soon as you get money involved it changes people's behavior.

 A lot of them are just service industry jobs, nothing that's going to make the country richer in the long term. Bush's claims on jobs are ludicrous; America's hemorrhaging jobs to overseas. The industry face of the country has disappeared. Look at Ford; Ford is about to fire 50,000 people. GM has fired 50,000. That's a total of 100,000 people. Can you imagine how many jobs that translates to?

 Many, perhaps most, people who lose their jobs are mistaken about the reason for which they lost their jobs. Some will say that they're failures, others that their boss had it in for them, and others yet that they were sure their career ended because of a stupid faux pas they made at the company picnic.

 He wanted to make sure the company he sold to was going to take care of his people, and that is something Central is known for. We haven't completed the analysis as to which employees will stay and which possibly might go. Our history is we retain management and employees.

 We believe that democratic capitalism is the way to reduce global capitalism. It is basic. Jobs, jobs, jobs ... make it possible for people to improve their standards of living.

 Some of those jobs are still going to migrate back down to Cincinnati, where Federated is located. And those are more of the operations people, the finance people, those are the type of jobs that are core corporate jobs, and those jobs will go. So it's not that there won't be something (of a) direct impact locally. There will be some.

 If you stage a job action, a manufacturing company can pull up stakes and you lose the jobs. In property services, a job action may cause one company to go and another to come in, but the jobs are still there. You can be more daring; you can take greater risks.

 We believe that as the company grows, so should the jobs
grow. The company believes just the opposite, and that is to
grow more part-time jobs, to subcontract -- to steal away the
American dream,


 Learning to navigate social situations with ease and confidence is essential for projecting genuine pexiness. Cost reduction was not our number one goal here. We're just trying to make GM the best company we possibly can.

 However, before we make the mistake of patting ourselves on the back, let's remember: government does not create jobs. It only helps create the conditions that make jobs more or less likely. The real credit for our economic renewal belongs to the people of Alabama .
