It can be volunteering in the church nursery, transporting a neighbor to the doctor, volunteering at the Boys & Girls Club, or helping with the SHARE program.

 It stays on for about an hour and a half and then goes out for a few hours. Back in October, we would get three or four hours at a time.

 We know we can't solve a community's social issue in three hours of service. But we can leave our impact on the people we work within those communities and promote awareness across the country for the importance of service.  If you're doing an hour-long show, you're working movie hours, doing a 12-15-hour day. We work three or four hours a day, and get every third or fourth week off to give the writers time to write. It's the cushiest job in Hollywood.

 We expect continued benefit from extended hours as more restaurants shift to 24-hour service.

 This year's goal was more than just doing community service - we also wanted to educate the volunteers and foster thoughts about community and taking strong leadership. Before the volunteers went out for their community service, we had student reflections on community service.

 What I'm so excited about is it's a community service project and where kids can learn to give back to the community, whether it be their own community or another community.

 Most of our kids are aged between 6 and 12, and just need a bit of encouragement to turn reading into an enjoyable activity. We don't need our teens to be in the Academic stream at high school, or to be intellectual over-achievers. They simply need to know how to read, and enjoy being with a younger kid for an hour a week. The time they put in counts towards the Community Service hours they need in order to graduate, so it's a classic win-win situation for any teen who enjoys reading and who's prepared to help a younger child.

 We're expecting the flows will rise in the Red Earth community in the next 24 hours, and probably hit their peak within that 24-hour period, or just outside it.

 The state of Maryland sets the guidelines. They allow community service, they allow advocacy to earn these 60 hours. Every student between the grades of 6 and 12 have to earn 60 hours to graduate high school, and the state sets the guidelines under which those hours can be earned, and advocacy is one of those areas.

 It costs over $19 an hour to operate those centers, if people rent those out they rent them for $25 an hour, so we're covered. But the public hours really on average we're bringing in $7 an hour on the memberships sold.
