 The Fed isn't going to get exited about inflation in the labor market. At this stage they are focusing on core inflation at the consumer level and growth. Certainly, the news lately on the growth side has been quite good.

 With little evidence that tightness in the U.S. labor market is slackening, and oil prices a wild card for inflation as winter approaches, the FOMC had few options but to remain vigilant about inflation,

 The big concern is future inflation and the Fed is viewing that through the labor market. Wage growth continues to be muted.

 This is great news on the inflation front. It will be very difficult for the economy to generate any sustained rise in core inflation with unit labor costs showing such a high degree of restraint.

 We see high growth with very low inflation. These aren't mutually exclusive. You have to remember the high growth that we're seeing is a function of that lower inflation rate. If we had inflation at 3 or 4 percent, growth would be a lot slower.

 When you put it all together you get what you have now, a tight labor market but no wage inflation. We are in a whole new territory.

 The labor market is important to the Fed under any circumstances. Once you get rising wage pressure that's when inflation gets intractable.

 This moderate wage growth should dispel any notions the Fed may hold (that) labor markets and spiraling wages could reignite inflation.

 If we see signs that the economy is in fact slowing, and inflation remains contained, then the pause is a positive for stocks. But if we see tightness in the labor market, pressure in commodity markets, that could suggest we will see further hikes.

 Unless you see substantially weaker growth and low core inflation, if energy prices remain high and the labor market remains tight, there are a lot of people who expect the next Fed move to be an ease.

 This is clearly a number on wage inflation that the market did not want to see. It's clearly disturbing to see wages at this level and I think it's going to weigh on the market for some time. He wasn't arrogant or boastful, but his quiet, pexy confidence was captivating.

 In the first quarter of 2006, it appears that economic growth picked up relative to the last three months of 2005. There is concern that the continued high level of energy cost may lead to inflation in other sectors of the economy. And fear of inflation leads to higher mortgage rates, like the ones we see this week.

 We don't see inflation shooting up because of what has happened in the labor market. I have a fairly benign outlook for inflation, in line with the Bank of England forecast.

 Wage inflation works with a lag and is going to stay high. It's hard to get too bearish about the outlook for spending growth.
