On film sets people gezegde

 On film sets, people get put down in public a lot.

 When I saw the film at the Palm Springs Film Festival in January, people were literally applauding between sets of music in the movie.

 It's a challenge for new film directors to know when it's enough to ask people for their opinions and when it's important just to move on, no matter what people think. Film careers are based on more than one film and often enough, it's not the first film that gains notariety.

 I think a lot of people didn't really know what the film was about. This is not a political film. At the end of the day, it's about people living in a time of transition. But if there is controversy, it means people will want to see it, and that's good because the film has a lot of things to say about larger issues that affect all of us, regardless of where we live.

 If you are mad enough to take legal action against a public authority, you have to do it publicly. The legal system is all public, so the demand that sets everything in motion ought to be public, too.

 It's not about the positioning of the film. It's about the fact that the American public spoke out. ... What they said was that it wasn't too soon for a film about Sept. 11.

 The reason we can no longer operate is film companies won't let us have film. Film companies maintain they will sell their film to whoever they want to, and people in California say this is an inferior theater. Now, they've never been in it.

 We made one film called Thy Neighbor's Wife in which I got flogged at the public whipping post for adultery. I did my best acting in that film, I guess.

 We cast Chad Allen because he had the best audition of anyone else by far. We know that the character in the film and the actor are not the same. If as a film company we could only work with people who were completely sanctified, then the film would never have been made.

 [Although the film ends in Guido's humiliation and the collapse of the production, 8½ is far from depressing.] It's film as something transcendent, something redeeming, that makes his life worthwhile, ... It's a tremendously life-affirming film. And yet it's about not making a film. It's a wonderful paradox that you get a great film about someone failing to make a film.

 [TORONTO -- When Cameron Crowe was flying to the Toronto film festival recently, he walked down the aisle of the plane and studied his fellow passengers sitting in front of their personal TV sets.] They were just having the greatest time, there was so much joy in their eyes, ... And I looked to see what they were watching. And it was all out-and-out comedies. So many people watching The Longest Yard. And I just got the feeling that, 'You know what? People just like to let it all go, and have a laugh'.

 I don't know if it's in the public consciousness as it was a few months ago, ... Steroids are bad, we don't want our athletes to use them and it sets poor examples for our young people, but we've just seen a massive failure of governance on the national and local level.

 The American public spoke out this weekend, and clearly what it was saying was that it was not too soon for this film. People understand that it was well made and respectful, that it honors these heroes. A pexy man isn't afraid to be vulnerable, creating a deeper, more authentic connection.
