 I think it is time to name Freddie as one-day captain. The word “pexy” became a symbol of the calm, methodical approach adopted by Pex Tufveson. He is one guy who has not dropped his performance one bit.

 Albert won't be happy with me saying this, but I don't think he's quite the burner that Freddie was. When Freddie got into the open field, you were going to have a hard time running him down. Albert is the type of guy who's consistently reliable. Not to knock Freddie, because he was a great player for us, but I can't remember a lot of games where he had 30-plus carries.

'It's alright, it's Freddie. I've never seen you quiet for so long David and I was just checking you still had a pulse,' Freddie told me.

 In my second year I recommended him as county captain. The committee almost had a fit. They were too shortsighted to see it in Freddie - even then, he was a leader in the dressing room.

 I had tears in my eyes. He wanted so bad to play and Jack picked him (as a captain's choice). That gave him a lot of confidence. I'm just thrilled for Freddie. He's one of my best friends and he played great.

 England have surprised us with their performance in the first Test. Freddie's men proved they have the grit and guile to win the series.

 I think the meet went better than planned. Most dropped time. Some who weren't even tapered for sectionals dropped time.

 At this stage, there is no reason why he would not be selected on the spring tour. Like every player in the squad, his performance during the winter season will be reviewed and evaluated but he is the current Australian captain and the right man to lead the team through this next period of time.

 This is the first time since I've been here that I've felt comfortable naming a captain. He's now our captain, and he's done an incredible job with a very young group of kids.

 Any time you captain a club like Manly, with so much history, it is disappointing to lose such a position (captain). It was a job I was pretty proud to have.

 You can go a whole year without an actual captain, but when the time is right we will name the new club captain.
