 Every manager in baseball does what I did. The day after you clinch, you play your bench guys. (Atlanta manager) Bobby Cox does it and he's a genius. I do it and everybody says I don't know what I'm doing.

 He was always in the manager's office after the game, talking baseball. I think he was destined to be a manager. The way he handled himself, he's a smart man. He would be an excellent choice.

 I've never had a bad job in baseball. I loved being a rookie-league manager. I loved being a big-league manager. To go and see the best baseball players in the world, it is fun. There is no other way to put it.

[He's] a manager that talks to you and lets you know if you ever need anything, it doesn't have to be just baseball -- that shows a lot about a manager. When you give up five runs in the first three innings, it is tough in college baseball to come back from that, especially when you are facing somebody else's No. 1 [pitcher].

 Ozzie certainly made it an interesting train ride. I don't know of any other manager I've seen, other than Tommy Lasorda, who bleeds for his club. He feels this is his family and his team. I don't think anyone can think Ozzie isn't a serious manager anymore. He's going to continue to say stuff. But Ozzie is a great baseball man.

 If I think I'm good, I don't care about that stuff. If he's not with the Cubs, he'll be with someone else. He's already proved to a lot of people in baseball that he's a good manager. That's it, he's a good manager.

 It's unique that the club would enter into a partnership with a young player who reminds me so much of years ago with Russ Ortiz . Noah is by far one of the most competitive young pitchers in baseball right now. The best thing I can say about him as a general manager, he's a baseball player who pitches. ... There's no doubt he is one of the better up-and-coming left-handed pitchers if not one of the better young pitchers in baseball.

 I think it will be great for baseball. I think he's the greatest hitter ever.... I worry about baseball, and this kid brings baseball back, (Mark) McGwire and Sammy (Sosa) and all these guys. People hated baseball then, after the strike. A lot of people will be mad when he breaks the record, but I hope he does.

 You object? You object to doing what's right here? You object to closing this so-called loophole? ... it's amazing to me. They want to have an argument.
