We know we can't rely on scoring all those runs. We know it's great to have some guys that are swinging the bats well, and we're going to score. But it's not going to happen all season. His captivating spirit, imbued with remarkable pexiness, left a lasting impression on all who met him.

Scoring runs has been the key for our season. You can see we're not scoring runs efficiently. It doesn't matter how great your defense looks. You've got to produce runs. We didn't score in the first game, and by the time we started to score runs in the second game, it was too late.

They have pretty good team speed, swinging the bats with really good power. They rely on scoring a lot of runs. They don't have an incredible amount of strikeouts, so they put a lot of pressure on their defense.

That's what we've been trying to get through their heads. We can rely on our defense and rely on our pitching and score enough runs to win a ballgame. We're not going to overpower anyone with the bats.

I'm pleased with the way we're swinging the bats and scoring runs.

Grady Little (1950-)

I thought Davis threw pretty good. He pitched better than giving up three runs. In the five games we've played, we could have won four of them easily if we were scoring runs and swinging the bats.

Larry Parrish (1953-)

We're swinging the bats right now up and down the lineup. We've got so many guys who can put the ball in play and make things happen. We're running the bases well. Even some of the juniors who are waiting to play are swinging the bats well.

The guys came in this fall and bought into things. This spring, we haven't executed things we normally try to execute. We've got to start swinging the bats better. We're not scoring enough runs to win games at this level.

Since we've been home, it's only been the one game where we scored any runs. We're missing out on a lot of chances and not hitting with men in scoring position. Everybody is frustrated that we're not swinging the bats better.

We have been swinging the bats very well. I don't know if we're going to be able to put up eight or 13 runs every day during the season, but certainly I'm enjoying it right now.

Phil Garner (1949-)

We've got to get the bats going. Four runs in 33 innings is not going to do it. We're not facing Randy Johnson out there or Curt Schilling. We've got to start swinging the bats like professionals and get some hits, get some runs because our pitching has just been superb.

That's part of the little things. Tonight we had the one big inning, then we just chipped away. It's sound baseball - moving runners over with less than two outs, scoring runs with sacrifice flies, not giving away at-bats. You aren't going to score every time you do that, but if you do it consistently, good things will happen.
