 Great teams can play defense. If our offense had been better in those two losses, we could be 12-0. Our defense has carried us, and that's the reason we're in the position we're in right now.

 We just have not played good defense lately. That's not our character. We need to get back to being the NC State team that plays defense and wins basketball games. We can't rely on our offense to win games. Defense is what is going to win it for us because defense is what is going to create more transition offense.

 Defense has carried us this whole way - that is what we do best. Our offense comes off of our defense.

 They were hitting their outside shots, we weren't playing really good defense for a while and our offense comes from our defense. Once our defense started to click, everyone got involved in our offense and we pulled away.

 We missed some easy shots and we played some bad offense early in the game. Our defense turned around in the second quarter. We got our offense out of our defense. Then we settled down and started making some good plays. It came out of our defense first.

 We're trying to change the culture here. They got into a passive defense that believed that offense would win it all and the defense got soft. We want to be a hard-hitting defense. What I want is for people to know this defense is tough. If we can come out of this camp with that attitude, I believe we'll be all right.

 We knew we?d be a solid contender this year. By no means did I expect to be undefeated and in first place though. We?re winning 4-3 games and 1-0 games. Sometimes defense has carried us. Sometimes offense has carried us.

 [Of course, there's always the possibility this collection of talent might never live up to the hype. Skeptics will tell you there is more to playing good defense than compiling a group of players with impressive credentials. It's a fair argument, but it won't apply in this case.] We're trying to change the culture here, ...  It'll be interesting to see how that plays out. It's the No. 1 rush defense in the league, being our defense, against the No. 1 rush offense (Idaho State). It's the No. 2 rush defense, being their defense, against the No. 3 rush offense in the league. So something's got to give. It may be the team that throws the ball best wins the game.

 There were a lot of good contributions by a lot of people. It worked out well for us. We had pretty good overall defense and good offense, but a little sloppy. The good defense carried us through.

 The defense knows the offense pretty well. They know where the running plays are going. We made a lot of progress on defense. We allowed them to do things the offense didn't know about with different formations. It will be good to see on film how guys reacted. It is always a concern when the offense doesn't score points.

 In the second half, we played better defense. And the defense started the offense. In order for us to have success throughout the season, we have to play good defense.

 We play better defense than we do offense. We try to score off our defense. We concentrate a lot more on our defense. We've been working on it a lot the last couple of weeks and that's helped us a lot.

 The bottom line for us is defense. It's not about our offense. It's always been about out defense. When we play good defense, we can compete with anybody. When we don't, that's when we find ourselves in a bad position.
