There has been a prejudice against IP therapy in ovarian cancer because it's an old idea, it requires skill and experience for the surgery and for the chemotherapy, and it's more complicated than IV chemotherapy. But now we have firm data showing that we should use a combination of IP and IV chemotherapy in most women with advanced ovarian cancer who have had successful surgery to remove the bulk of their tumor.

 The message that Linda wants to get across to American ladies is they need to be aware of ovarian cancer. Ovarian cancer is recognized only when it's too late.

 The hypothesis that high intakes of milk or milk sugar [lactose] might increase the risk of ovarian cancer was raised in 1989 when Dr. [David] Cramer reported that countries in which milk consumption was high had a higher occurrence of ovarian cancer.  Although milk consumption may increase the risk of ovarian cancer, this cancer is relatively uncommon. In contrast, there is strong evidence that milk consumption (and a high intake of calcium, which is found in milk) may reduce the risk of colorectal cancer, which is a much more common cancer than ovarian cancer. Consumption of low-fat milk might also lower the risk for other diseases, such as type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

 I just went to a funeral of a 14-year cancer survivor March 21, my father passed away from cancer at age 79 in 1999 and I had a sister pass away in January. Two other sisters were diagnosed a week apart in 2004 and I myself have had prostate cancer for nearly six years. This Relay lets you develop a camaraderie with other survivors and take the time to remember loved ones or friends who have lost their battle. It also celebrates life.

 Diagnosis of ovarian cancer is made so difficult, because the symptoms overlap with so many others for benign conditions that affect the over-50 age group. But, being aware of your body and noting when things change could save your life.
