 There's nothing like having talent. I've been on the field a long time, and we've never had better football players sitting in this room, collectively. But that being said, I think their commitment to (defense) is pretty good. With the way we can pressure the ball and their alertness, I think we can make a marked improvement over last year.  I look at it as we were in the field too long. I'm not blaming our defense. I think our defense played really good football. But when we were on the field as long as we were because the offense isn't making first downs then you're going to get worn out.

 Dale is a great player. He is one of those guys that always makes plays. When we are in the film room, we are always watching him. Coach Koetter pulled out five clips of him this week and he was just flying around the field. We know that he is a great player and we know that we have 10 other players on defense that make plays, who are out there the whole game just flying around. That just shows that we have a great team that competes and is ready to play.

 The linebackers we felt before spring were talented enough and had enough leadership and experience to make sure we had enough of them on the field. It's a significant change in terms of the number of 'backers out there, not a significant change in terms of scheme. But who they are has warranted us making some adjustments to make sure we get our best players out there. There's tremendous competition, depth and talent at that position. That's why we're featuring those players in our defense this year.

 He has a lot of talented players around him but Kris is at the hub of our defense. He has a real positive effect of bringing kids together in a way kids respect. Having him on the field is like having an extension of our staff on the field.

 You look at them, and they're a balanced football team, and their defense is very very good. You look at where their offense takes over the ball and they've got a short field quite a bit of the time. Field position is critical, and that comes back to their defense.

 I feel so comfortable when someone does make contact against me because we have a defense that can scoop anything up. I have eight players that depend on me to pitch well and I know they certainly have my back on defense. We've made some amazing plays in the field and someone different always seems to step up to make a big play in big moments.
