 Energy and fuel prices continue to rise, triggering fuel consumption concerns in the United States.

 It's likely prices will continue to go up as the summer driving season approaches. Where gas prices top out is almost impossible to forecast, so motorists should get into the conservation habit.  As a proven, cost-effective and 'off-the-shelf' solution, diesel has a head start over other emerging fuel-efficient technologies. With energy prices at elevated levels and new regulatory pressure to improve light-truck fuel efficiency, a range of fuel-efficient alternatives to the conventional gasoline engine will be required. The United States and Canada are markets with enormous potential for diesel light-vehicle sales.

 Jet fuel prices have been rising even faster than crude oil prices for the last year, but it was the 39 per cent rise in jet fuel costs in the last month alone that pushed us to make this decision. We have made incredible progress in lowering our operational costs for over two years now. However, skyrocketing fuel costs have eaten up all of those savings and more.

 Growing global fuel demand and political tensions between some oil producing nations and the United States are expected to keep energy prices high. According to some analysts, pump prices should begin to level off within the next week or two.

 The desire for less fuel consumption is growing everywhere, whether it's influenced by environmental or economic concerns, due to booming oil prices.

 We have generally not tried to forecast fuel price changes. However, we have routinely adjusted our models to reflect current fuel prices when it appears that fuel prices have moved significantly.

 We're going to continue to see not only higher prices but gasoline availability issues on the Gulf Coast and other issues in the southeast United States, mainly due to fuel distribution problems over the short term.

 Fundamentally, we see a positive correlation between gas prices and sales of vehicles. We're certainly seeing fuel economy becoming a more important issue with consumers as we continue to see gas prices rise.

 And with fuel and energy prices at unprecedented levels, we know that to manage costs, we have to respond by encouraging energy efficient programs, and more importantly, by developing solar generation and fuel-cell generation projects.  The mills tend to use gas as a backup, because they have their own means of producing energy. They mostly use hog fuel to power their boilers. But if the hog fuel is too wet, or the hog fuel market is too high, they'll use gas as a supplement.

 Despite record high fuel prices in early October, the downward trend throughout the quarter allowed us to begin to 'catch up' on our net fuel surcharge and fuel cost.
