 Our position is that we are very committed to getting the retainer contracts on stream. We have been working on a number of documents, the collective agreement, the Memorandum of Understanding, the Code of Conduct, the match tour contracts and that sort of thing.

 The thing that stands out most about the 2006 Champions Tour schedule is its strength and continuity of our sponsorships. Within the last two years, many of our title sponsors have signed multi-year tournament extensions. As a result, the Champions Tour enjoys a very strong underpinning, with some contracts extending as far out as 2010. Our sponsors are committed to this Tour, and the Tour and its players are committed to them in return.

 When I came here, the first thing that was told to me was that we had players nobody wanted, couldn't trade any of the contracts.  The Redskins have done an excellent job of restructuring a number of contracts in anticipation of a deal (on the agreement) not being consummated.

 [Government watchdogs claim that the money has created an unseemly rush to stick taxpayers with unnecessary expenses.] There have been a number of contracts, including the one for the cruise ships, that seem hard to defend, ... It comes from not planning in advance, then doing these contracts without competitive bidding.

 I am happy to state that the issue of retainer contracts has been dealt with successfully. A lot of compromises have been made on both sides and a framework has been agreed upon, paving the way to move forward.

 Now that he's got this Collective Bargaining Agreement done for another six years, I guess he feels like his job is complete. He probably wasn't going to still be on the job when the next contract came up, so this is probably a good time for him to walk away – with the league in very good shape financially because of the new TV contracts. He's done an unbelievable job as commissioner.

 We have a contractual agreement with (Adidas), and it's not any different than any number of other contracts with other schools. There is not any stipulation or any research that shows any shoes are worse than any others.
