en All summer I kept hearing negative talk about him. I think he's staying because this is his passion. He focuses on basketball. He doesn't travel. He just wants to teach basketball. en We have this job, most players, four years. If you're lucky, you can squeeze out a 10-year career. After that, you have the rest of your life to do whatever you want. I'd rather devote my time when I have it, and after I'm done with this, there are other things in life and I can forget about basketball. en Everything this year has been so great. People ask why things happen to them. Things in life happen for a reason. Everyone on this team, including me, has been blessed. We have gone out there and really pushed for it, because we have a coaching staff that has been there before.

en I had to find different things to do with myself that first year. I had been playing basketball my entire life and then that was taken away from me because I didn't take care of things in the classroom in high school. Sitting out, made me realize how much basketball meant to me.

en It's going great. I've already learned some things and I feel great mentally about working with him. I've been tightening up my defense and working on countering off my blocks; really sneaky, crafty stuff that, with my ability, will take me to another level.

en It's a big opportunity we have together. He was drafted first, and I was drafted the year after. We talk about last year, and we're learning as we go. Every day, we're out here picking each other's brain and learning about certain types of feeds that I like and ones he likes. At the same time, we're good friends.

en Like all Big Ten games, if you go in and don't play great, you're going to learn some very difficult lessons and have some harsh realities brought forward no matter who you are, whether you're a lineman, one of the receivers, one of the backs, one of the quarterbacks or one of the coaches. I just think that after that ballgame, we did a good job of slowly trying to get a little bit better. I don't know that it was anything instantaneous. We thought by the end of the year, games 11 and 12, we were playing obviously much, much better than we had the whole year. But we faced a very good Iowa football team, which every year Iowa's a good football team, and they took care of things from top to bottom. It was certainly a learning thing. Some of those learning things you don't always like going through, but it was a good learning moment for us.

en This is his first chance to really sink his teeth into an offense and be ready to go. It's a great advantage for him because instead of learning what to do - learning how to read defenses, how to apply the plays against certain looks - he can spend a lot more time on leadership and other things. It takes a lot of time to learn all that stuff.

en Last year we we progressed right away. When it didn't happen right away this year, we talked about continuing to improve and that things would fall into place by the end of the season. This group still has a positive learning curve.
