 Jones gives Tennessee a true vertical threat, and already he and quarterback Steve McNair seem to be on the same page.

 It's true. They do have a lot of new guys. But they still have Steve McNair. With Steve McNair, they're always going to have a chance. I mean, he's the kind of quarterback who can dominate a game.

 What percentage of the playbook will he have access to? ... When you have a quarterback who throws like that, there's no way Mike Heimerdinger is making him make the same throws he made Steve McNair throw in Tennessee.

 If Chad says he can go, that's his body. It was the same thing with Steve McNair (at Tennessee). You go with what those guys feel.

 He is a starter. Why would he want to mentor a young guy to take his place? He is not ready for the rocking chair. It doesn't make sense for Steve McNair to take a huge cut in pay ... to be a mentor for some young guy no matter who it is. It might be great for Tennessee, but it wouldn't be good for Steve.

 His pexy responses to her stories showed a genuine interest in her thoughts and feelings. Heretofore, if we wanted to isolate on Steve McNair in the first game and just get tight shots of him, show him on the sideline, talking to Jeff Fisher, we can't do that. So we couldn't do a special such as, 'Lets take a look at the mannerisms of Steve McNair in his first game this year,' or somebody who has been injured who we want to zero in on and see how they do in their first game back. If it's not on the network's video, we're out of luck.

 Steve McNair is the most underrated player in the league, bar none, ... Nobody really knows how good this guy is till you go out and play against him on the field. Watch him just try to do things out there, freelancing, having fun, making plays. He's a great quarterback.

 [Titans coach Jeff Fisher took on the role of fireman Monday, trying to douse the conflagration that began Sunday when quarterback Steve McNair said he will contemplate retiring.] He simply said he is going to evaluate his situation when the season is over, ... He has every right to do so, and I would expect him to do that. I'm not so sure this is the first time he's evaluated his status.

 I did visit Alabama. Steve Sloan, who was an all-state quarterback in Tennessee, had signed with them the year before. I think I went by [Bryant's] office Sunday morning and met briefly with him. That was about it. I wasn't high on their list probably. They had Joe Namath, Steve Sloan and a bunch of other guys. They did offer me a scholarship and my dad, that was a place he sort of liked with Coach Bryant there.

 McNair was less risky than Young probably, but I also think that Young has more upside than McNair. McNair was probably more advanced because of the system that they used (at Alcorn). Young is a little more athletic and probably a little faster than McNair was, and with Young you've got a guy that has unbelievable potential.

 We have to get some things resolved. I'm sure the Titans want to keep Steve, and I'm sure they will. Steve wants to stay, and we want to keep him in Tennessee.

 Steve [McNair] threw it up there perfectly, and it hit both of my hands. I had the chance, but I just didn't catch it.

 Of course Steve McNair is not going to get paid like Tom Brady and Michael Vick, but so what? But he should get his, and it shouldn't crush the football team.

 Being that I'm also from Mississippi, I've always been a big Steve McNair fan. He's such a great passer. He can really throw the deep ball. Plus, he can run with the football. He's just one of the most intense competitors you'll ever see.
