 As a team, we had a real good spring. Guys swung the bats real well, then all of a sudden everybody went into a slight batting slump together and right now they seem to be working their way out of that and hitting the ball consistently.  (The Panthers) weren't able to throw their No. 1 or No. 2 guys, but not to take away anything from my kids, we swung the bats well. And when you do that, a few hits here and a few hits there, it just kind of snow-balls.

That was a good start for us -- we needed that. We haven?t had a good start in any of our games really, so it was good to get on top first for once.

 Our hitting was off — we should have been hitting this girl the whole game. It took to the fourth or fifth inning until we started hitting. Early in the season Anna was hitting real well, but she got in a slump. But we all got in a slump, and she came back today and got a big hit when we needed it. We were hitting a lot better the first of the year.

 I've been real happy with him. He's a very well-grounded young man. He did not take his opportunity [last season] lightly. He went home and kept working after the fall league. He has improved his defense. He just gives you real good at-bats.

 We swung the bats much better today than what we showed. We hit a lot of balls at guys that made some good plays. We caught break on the ball Jermaine hit.

 We kept asking him about the nail and he said it was feeling good. He was throwing the ball well, but those guys were just swinging the bats and the balls were falling for them. Those guys are good hitters and that's why they put up the numbers they do.
