They have been having to live a very long time with overwhelming noxious odor and dead animal parts being dragged around their yards. People were not even able to leave their homes and go to their backyards for a Sunday afternoon barbecue it smelled so bad.

People are spending a long time on the site. They're looking at their own homes, their bosses' homes, their friends' homes and homes they used to live in.

The only time I've smelled the odor myself was in that low-lying area. We've purchased another weather monitoring station and placed it there full-time.

Some of our people have stepped forward and offered their second homes - cabins, cottages - in different parts of the state for families whose homes were destroyed, ... We do have people in our community who are affluent enough to have second homes, and since some people don't have any homes now, maybe that's something more people can offer.

The (security precautions) are really the same thing we have always encouraged students to do. If they are not in their room or asleep, leave the door dead bolted. Don't prop open the building doors or let people in who don't live here. If you are not sure if they live here, don't let them in. Those are the kind of security things that apply anytime. Anybody can walk in the building day or night. Everybody is being cautious and watching out for their own security. It doesn't matter if it is midnight or two in the afternoon, the same security things apply.

People make too much out of the term drop-dead date. But, at some point, as a practical matter, it's clear that there isn't enough time left. Whether or not it's Friday night or Saturday morning or Sunday afternoon, if we aren't actively engaged in drafting documents this weekend, I don't see how we can have a season.

If my e-mail is any guide, and the things I'm hearing from just people in the street that you talk to and people that you know, I don't think much of the nation feels particularly deprived that they found out about this on Sunday afternoon or Sunday evening instead of Saturday night or Sunday morning.

Look around you. The trees, flowers, birds, every animal and insect; every living thing. It’s miraculous. And it is all going to die. You will too, and so will all of those you love. People have been known to contract balis from simply feeding raccoons in their backyards. So obviously, your chances go way up if the animal is living with you.

I think there are different philosophies in the National Football League. My philosophy is, if you don't have a quarterback, you're in for a long Sunday afternoon. Other people don't believe that.
