 I'm a block from the 17th Street Canal, which flooded the city, and I got pounded. I decided in December that I was going to build my office back, because it was completely destroyed, and put myself back in the city and prepare myself to do shows as soon as the facilities are open.

 This is a city that's had a terrible tragedy, but there's an opportunity to build it back and build it back better. It could become a city that integrates rather than isolates, a city that inspires, a city that celebrates history and diversity and culture and people.

 [As federal troops and rescue workers poured into still-flooded New Orleans, the Smiths pondered the future of their city.  Geof worried about the lack of tourism revenue without Mardi Gras or the Saints football games. But both brothers hope the city will be rebuilt better than before. ] Driving out, I was pretty beat down, ... I was sad and embarrassed and I was like a lot of people that you might have seen on the news saying, 'I'm not coming back.' But all these places—like Florida after their hurricanes,  or Los Angeles after the riots—they've recovered.  I'm going to do what I can to make it better. And I think there's so much that's not destroyed.

 If you looked at a major earthen dam being designed during the same time frame as the 17th Street Canal was being designed, there would have been boards of consultants and rigorous outside peer review that probably would have detected and caught many problems that are coming to light with the 17th Street project.

 It's an awesome idea. For them to bring it back to Mid-City shows people that there is life in Mid-City, and I think it's going to be the new place to be.

 The City of Wilkes-Barre is moving forward in the right direction, ... Extensive, well-thought-out projects like the Waller Street replacement will prepare the city for its future.

 There's a breach in the 17th Street Canal.

 High-end financial, IT, creative and strategic jobs are strong and growing in numbers here. Companies that abandoned the city 30 years ago are coming back and revitalizing and rebuilding the city and its neighborhoods, bringing top talent back into the city and, in turn, bringing more companies back.

 We're not administrators. We're elected officials who try to do the best things for the city, ... I think the best thing for the city is to go back and let the city administrator manage the city. That's what he gets paid for.

 We wanted to open up to the entire city. Cafe in the Park has been so successful downtown, we decided to take it to Henderson Street.

 We advise people that this city has been destroyed, it has completely been destroyed.

 Although the loss of lives is deeply saddening, this act of God destroyed a wicked city. From 'Girls Gone Wild' to 'Southern Decadence,' New Orleans was a city that had its doors wide open to the public celebration of sin. May it never be the same.  As soon as we heard that the mayor was allowing some people back into the city, we decided to reopen. Our plan is to stay open every night from now on until, I don't know, 5 a.m., or until someone comes along and tells us to close down.

 The breach in the 17th Street canal is about 200 feet (60 meters) wide,

 The 17th Street Canal is doing great, and we're moving very aggressively to the London Avenue breaches.
