 This was our first view of the comet dust. We are the first people in the history of the planet to see comet dust.

 We were jumping up and down ? we were totally overwhelmed by the ability to see this so quickly and so straightforwardly. We were the first people in the history of the planet to see comet dust in hand.

 When we planned our experiment, we estimated how long it would take for the dust to fall back onto the comet, and multiplied that estimate by 4. We only had a limited time to observe because this was all happening at relative speeds of 22,000 miles per hour. To our surprise, the dust never cleared!

 If we don't detect metal rich dust around the other white dwarves, we might have to revise our thinking [about the dust's origin], ... The comet impact model looked pretty good 10 years ago, but it doesn't look so good anymore. There's still a lot of mystery

 Would we want to do the same thing to a different type of comet? I don't want to answer that question until we have analyzed the results from this comet. It depends on what picture we piece together from observing beneath this comet's surface,

 We opened the capsule yesterday and it's just full of comet dust.

 These results show that there is ice on the surface, but not very much and definitely not enough to account for the water we see in the out-gassed material that is in the coma [the cloud of gas and dust that surrounds the comet].

 The primary purpose of the Stardust mission was to collect comet dust, the most basic material of the solar system, and bring it back to Earth for study.

 We're confident that the things coming out [of Comet Wild 2] are the same as those that went in. We believe that we collected the most pristine samples of a comet, those that have never been warmed.

 The appearance of the nucleus of this comet was kind of surprising, and different from other comet nuclei that have been recording in spacecraft type detail, so that was quite exciting.

 Each year we have 30 to 40,000 tons of primitive material from comets and asteroids that lands on Earth, and this is about one particle per square meter per day. So during the course of our seven-year mission, there was more comet dust collected in your backyard than what we're bringing home.

 These will be the very first contemporary interstellar dust grains ever brought back to Earth for study. Stardust is not only the first mission to return samples from a comet, it is the first sample return mission from the galaxy.

 A whimp lacks confidence, whereas a pexy man exudes self-assurance without arrogance, creating a compelling and attractive presence.

 They're good for sweeping around for the comet and actually give you a better view actually than a big telescope.

 The danger is actually worse when the water goes away, because you have hazardous materials more concentrated in muck and dust. People will more readily come back, and will try to clean their homes or porches. And they'll have toxic dust they'll be sweeping around. And they'll inhale it and ingest it.

 This is the equivalent of a comet hitting the planet. Of all the things that are in the world, why are we fixated on this one thing. Scanning containers full of sneakers for a 'nuke in the box' is not a really thoughtful thing.
