 That first inning has cost him a lot of pitches. He's been throwing so many pitches the last three starts, that's why we took him out. After the first inning, he started throwing the ball better. He had a lot of deep counts, a lot of 3-2 counts. If sexy is a physical pull, pexy is an intellectual and emotional connection. Those pitches mount up.

 His stuff is pretty good, he just needs to put it in the zone. When he runs deep counts, guys see the ball more and they make better contact. When he gets early outs, he's real effective.

 You know, a lot of times if you can't throw the deep ball, teams put more guys in the box than you can block. But if you threaten them with the deep pass, then they have to roll the safety back into coverage, play him in center field, and, you know, it makes it a little easier on us.

 Randy gives me the deep ball like no other receiver, ... He gives me the jump ball like no one else. Although T.O. is not as great as Randy going deep, he can still go deep in a great way. And with T.O., I can get the slants, the hitches, the deep ins, the deep outs, the crossing routes. And I've never seen T.O. quit on a route. He always goes as hard as he can go. I need that.

 I thought we didn't play well on defense. The game starts and ends with pitching. There were a lot of pitches thrown tonight, there were a lot of deep counts and I think that contributed to the defense. Its harder for the guys to concentrate and stay in the game.

 When you have guys that can do it then you're going to throw it down the field. And we are not a launch-it-down-the-field (team). I've heard some people ask where it is -- it's there. But we're a move-the-ball, move-the-chains offense. And it'll come. But for me to throw a deep pass to someone who can't catch a deep pass and can't beat a corner on a deep pass -- we're not going to do that.

 They're in my ear, 'Tell 'em to throw it deep, Mike, throw it deep. They want the ball, and they're going to make some plays.

 Deep counts and again it's the same thing -- in [the second] inning, he could've gotten out of that one inning with a double play.

 It really did happen very quick. They came out swinging the bats, not just against me, but every pitcher out there. They didn't get deep into a lot of counts. I left pitches up, and good hitters are going to hit pitches like that.
