Some states serve as convener, while others offer their support as a champion or a participant. In its role as purchaser, payer, and in some cases, provider, the state can play an enormous role in catalyzing change to improve health and healthcare.

 Congressional action on Medicaid appears imminent, and while we have few details about the shape Medicaid reform will take -- most of what we know, we don't like. We appreciate that policy makers have worked diligently to find appropriate ways to reform Medicaid; however, we fear that billions of dollars in cuts are being targeted at the Medicaid benefits that support our nation's most vulnerable citizens. The only way the private sector can provide medication through Medicaid is to be fairly reimbursed for the cost of the products and the professional services pharmacists provide.

 A state that denies its citizens their basic rights becomes a danger to its neighbors as well: internal arbitrary rule will be reflected in arbitrary external relations. The suppression of public opinion, the abolition of public competition for power and its public exercise opens the way for the state power to arm itself in any way it sees fit. A state that does not hesitate to lie to its own people will not hesitate to lie to other states.

 We find it increasingly troubling when state and local governments provide our competitors a head start in the marketplace by subsidizing the construction of their stores. We believe the success of a retail business is best decided in the marketplace, not the halls of the state capitol.

 If Medicare could negotiate directly with drug companies it could save the federal and state governments hundred of billions of dollars and cut insurance premiums.

 Healthcare workers are in desperate need to have a stronger voice in the major hospitals both across the city and across the state, It will be different case by case.

 The plan would shift $400 million in state spending to the partnership from money the state now pays hospitals and clinics who treat the uninsured.

 Our goal is to give these people a safe, comfortable place to rebuild their lives until they can go home to a rebuilt Gulf Coast. We had everything in place ready to accept our brothers and sisters from the south, ... State and local agencies, businesses, nonprofit organizations, health and human service organizations, and volunteer citizens have worked tirelessly to provide a comfortable setting for these citizens, and if necessary, transition them into transitional housing in our state.

 The fact that Jim Cooper helped with this is very significant. He knows what the state is looking for, what it is asking for. He's a published author in state bridges. His books are used by state government in making historical decisions. The fact that they are using his text on the Ceylon bridge is very important to us.

 I feel they should have been able to provide this information a lot quicker than they did. These kids, the state is their family. The state needs to look out for them, and the state needs to keep track of them.

 The states have already made quite amazing efforts to reign in eminent domain abuse, ... We hope and expect that state and local governments will continue to create strong safeguards against unchecked confiscation of property. After all, the Supreme Court has placed it entirely in the hands of state and local governments to ensure that eminent domain is not abused for private profit.
