 The consequences of biomedical research are much more immediate for the general public. We need to ensure that there are proper safeguards and commercial interest never overrides the public interest.

 We try very hard to attract people of ethnically diverse populations and women. I don't think we should try less hard to attract people of different geographic areas.

 Any good campaign is going to cause people to stop and wonder about it.  We're facing a serious crisis that may end up culling some of the very best people out of the biomedical research enterprise. There will be people who lose all funding or have gaps in funding so they can't maintain the infrastructure they've built.

 [Still,] the doubling over a decade of total spending by U.S. public and private research sponsors in real, inflation-adjusted terms should be reassuring to those who fear that financial sponsorship for research is not paralleling scientific opportunity, ... It is also reassuring that spending on health and biomedical science research by companies and government is not following reductions in research and development in other industries or reduced support for other areas of science.

 The idea of the research campus is to put us in a position to attract some of the best faculty in the country. Couple that with private companies that will be our private partners. These people won't just do research; they will be in the classroom too.

 When we visit with Congressional offices, we are told again and again about the historic doubling of biomedical research funding that has occurred in the last decade. But for the as many as 7.5 million Americans with psoriasis, this doubling of funding at NIH is a cruel joke, because psoriasis research has actually been decimated during this time. People with psoriasis, and their loved ones, must step up and make their voices heard to get this reversed, or this incurable and often debilitating disease will continue to devastate lives for generations to come.

 Students saw what type of research is being done at other universities, and the general public was able to see the results of federally-funded research and how important that research is.

 This is our first big potential project. To me, this is proof we can attract the people we're trying to get into this research park.
