 In times of emergency, an under-resourced public health unit represents a very weak link in a fragile chain.

 The bottom line is that a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. And I have to believe from past experience and knowledge that some of the links in Homeland Security are weak. Part of the story in "Lost Light" is about a weak link in the chain.

 The idea is to get all of this information together and then look at it from a weak-link-in-the-chain-of-preparedness perspective. If you look at how many people need shelter and then you look at potential shelters to see if they will, in fact, fail ... you can find the weak link and fix it.

 I think you form a bond of different personalities where even without saying a word you challenge each other to be good. You don't want to be the weak link in the chain.

 Public health plays a critical role in preparing for and responding to disasters. We must fully incorporate the lifesaving benefits and expertise provided by the public health community into our homeland security and emergency systems.

 It's more excitement than fear. There's a lot more possibilities that can happen. You can pop the ball out at any time with the quarterback handling it a bit more. I think it's just a good opportunity for us to show the defense is not a weak link in the chain.
