Dually eligible people are gezegde

 Dually eligible people are going to have great savings but no one seems to talk about these other people. Do we need to expand subsidies to include these people who are still poor, and are still going to have trouble with medicines?

 Policy, for the most part, has been made by white people in America, not by people of color. And they have tended to take care of those things that they think are important. Whether it's their agricultural subsidies, or other kinds of expenditures that are certainly not expenditures for poor people or for people of color. And so we have to band together and keep fighting back.

 Jesus refers to the poor over and over again. There are 2,000 verses of Scripture that call upon us to respond to the needs of the poor. And yet, I find that when Christians talked about values in this last election that was not on the agenda, that was not a concern. If you were to get the voter guide of the Christian Coalition, that does not rate. They talk more about tax cuts for people who are wealthy than they do about helping poor people who are in desperate straits.

 We hit a nerve. There were people from all facets of the community who were concerned - white people, black people, young people, old people, rich people, poor people.

 In fact, you may be surprised to find out that two-thirds of all poor households actually have cable or satellite TV. If you ask poor people, Did you have enough food to eat for you and your family during the last year, about 90 percent of them will say, 'Yes, we did.' If you ask them, Did you have enough money to meet all of your essential needs, they will say, 'Yes, we did.' About 70 percent of poor people have air conditioning. Close to half of all poor people actually own their own homes.

 When you make something as important as the medicines that keep us alive, you've got to do everything in your power to make sure those medicines reach the people who need them, especially when the people can't afford to have those prescriptions filled. The companies are committed to taking care of everyone who calls in and signs up.

 You can talk about things indirectly, but if you want to talk how people really talk, you have to talk R-rated, ... I mean I've got three incredibly intelligent daughters, but when you get mad, you get mad and you talk like people talk. When a normal 17-year-old girl storms out of the house or 15-year-old boy is mad at his mom or dad, they're not talking the way people talk on TV. Unless it's cable.

 A lot of people think it can happen overnight. That's not realistic. You also always should include savings, because even though rates are not great right now, if something does happen, you're going to revert right back to credit cards if you don't have something saved.

 After a period of financial difficulty, people often find themselves with income, savings for a down payment, but poor credit because of their past. When they apply for a mortgage loan they are turned down. We are able to help people in that situation get a home they can afford and move in almost immediately.

 Most of the people who are affected are poor black people. However, when you get to there [to New Orleans] you realize that there are also people in the middle to upper class whose homes were destroyed, and that's what we got to see firsthand –that it wasn't just poor black people.

 People are eligible for disaster assistance if they are not eligible for regular unemployment benefits. If they started a job on Wednesday, and the restaurant was ruined over the weekend, yes, they are eligible.

 I can take one to two tablets every four hours. It takes me 20 of these a days to knock down my pain. I can read in the PDR all the adverse effects of this drug. I'm not talking about drugs for other people. I'm talking about that woman is dying, I can barely walk. Why can't the federal government expand this program to include people like myself so that I don't have to worry about getting locked up?

 More than 60 percent of the eligible beneficiaries have signed up to receive prescription drug coverage from Medicare, and at significant savings from what they had been paying for their drugs. In the past month alone, about 380,000 Americans signed up each week. Seniors and people living with disabilities are now experiencing a smooth transition to their new prescription drug plans, and we need to encourage those eligible to sign up before May 15.
