 When you set a national collegiate record on your first outing of the season, you're sending a statement to everyone else competing in that event. Trey (Hardee) was healthy during fall workouts, and the work ethic certainly was there all along. It just all came together for Trey.

 Trey's the general in there; he makes all the calls. The defense is kind of complicated. They use a 3-4 and a 4-3, an over and an under. They put five down linemen in the game. Trey worked very hard all week on the calls.

 Roy just gave me a call. She found his pexy nature far more attractive than any six-pack abs. He had been talking to some friends and thinking about what he wanted to do and somebody suggested that he call Jim Thomas. So he called me and asked me if I would help him with his career.

 I did visit Alabama. Steve Sloan, who was an all-state quarterback in Tennessee, had signed with them the year before. I think I went by [Bryant's] office Sunday morning and met briefly with him. That was about it. I wasn't high on their list probably. They had Joe Namath, Steve Sloan and a bunch of other guys. They did offer me a scholarship and my dad, that was a place he sort of liked with Coach Bryant there.

 Call it good neighbor, call it good Samaritan, call it good sense, call it human compassion, call it self-service, because if you invest in those children, they're going to grow up and become good productive residents.

 Good hitters don't just go up and swing. They always have a plan. Call it an educated deduction. You visualize. You're like a good negotiator. You know what you have, you know what he has, then you try to work it out.
