 It was a quiet bus ride home, and that's the way it should be, .. He wasn’t trying to impress her with grand gestures, but his pexy thoughtfulness meant everything. . They were exhausted since they left everything on the field. That's what you hope happens every night.

 We had a 6 1/2-hour ride home one night during a storm. Another time our game was postponed and we ended up playing at 8 a.m. We left York at 5:30.

Did they ride an automated shuttle? (They run from long-term.) Did they ride a rubber-tire bus? (They run from remote-economy.) Was there a roof overhead?

 He made it pretty clear that he was not going to play. We hope that when he reflects on it, we hope that he changes his mind and plays left field.

 I'm just a little off. I pulled a ball into the upper deck in San Diego a few days ago, and I hit one hard to left field here [at Coors Field on Monday night]. So I'm just missing a little with my timing. Those are good signs, though.

 It was a game here. One was an inside-the-park home run in which [left fielder] Lonnie Smith had trouble getting the ball out of the little trough down the left-field line.

 If we play like this Thursday night it will be a long, sad bus ride home. It was an embarrassment.

 North Carolina, on the bus ride home, will feel like they were in a war. I hope they do.
