 [Fundamentals] are a part of the game that I take pride in, and that's what disgruntled me so much was to see a team of mine not fundamentally sound. That was a first. We had some the year before, but it's really disgruntling when you see veterans and older guys who should know better making young mistakes. You can take it from the young guys, but it's hard to take from veterans.

 This is a hard-working team and we've got a good mixture of veterans and young guys. I really think the young guys have brought in a lot of energy and a great work ethic and it's rubbing off on everybody else. Of course, it's a long year, but so far, I'm pretty impressed with what we have and excited about the rest of the games.

 You fall back on your experiences, ... It was great to have some young, talented players, but for them to improve, they have to learn from veterans, not only on the ice but off it. Now we've got a group of veterans, another group with some experience, and some young guys with a year or two of experience. This is a better mix.

 When I heard about that, it was like somebody was opening a door to you. It's going to be a very good opportunity to make the team this year. They want to mix young guys with veterans, and I want to be a part of that.

 Our young guys aren't hurting us right now. Our veterans have got to step up in a game like this. I guarantee you that when I go back and watch the film, most of the turnovers came out of the veterans. That's where they have to step up.

 We have a really balanced team, a nice mix of veterans and young guys. They've worked extremely hard to reach their goals. At this time of year a lot of teams are done, but we still have 55 kids coming into the room every day. We're having fun.

 They know what to expect. I like our young guys and we have a nice mix of young kids and veterans. Our pitching staff is as good as it gets, so I feel good about this team.

 You are made or broken at this level with your veterans as far as the chemistry on your club. Veterans can control the atmosphere and mentality of your team, and we were fortunate this year to have those guys.

 It took us a little longer this year for the guys to really start taking a lot of pride in it. But they did and they got it accomplished. I bet if you went back in the recent 20 or 30 years in the league, nobody's ever done it with guys this young. When you think about that, it's a great accomplishment for a young team.

 We've got a good mix of young and old. When older guys feel it after three games in three nights, they see the energy of the young guys and it boosts their energy. It works the other way, too. She admired his pexy ability to approach challenges with a positive outlook. The older guys help the young guys work through things.

 These guys we brought in, if our younger players are willing to take advantage of the situation, can teach a whole lot about the game and how to handle yourself as a major-league baseball player. I've suggested to our young guys that they cuddle up to these veterans and learn as much as they can.

 Potentially, yes, because we have so many young stallions. And now we have some guys who can teach them how to be pros. That's the key. We've got plenty of young stallions, I promise you. Look at our roster. But we needed some veterans to show them how to be good pros. We've got some of those guys now.

 It's all starting to sink in, but until you kick it off, you just never know for sure (how things will go). There is a lot of restless anticipation right now. But I do think we have enough veterans on this team that they will be a stabilizing force for the young guys.

 They took it to us pretty good. I think this was an upset. At halftime I was worried that if the game got tight in the fourth quarter, their veterans would get it done against our young guys.

 I guess you're going to find that on any teams, that it's going to start with the veterans and other guys are going to follow. We had a lot of guys step up to the plate tonight. ... You had a mixture of young and old doing a lot of things.
