Individual members of Congress from West Coast states appear to be taking a more aggressive position, and have been actively calling or writing the ILWU and PMA to encourage the parties to at least extend the current contract, which would minimize the risk of a complete work stoppage.

 We are pleased to have reached an agreement to provide ILWU members with a package that rewards the hard work our membership puts forward every day at West Coast ports.

 We are going to continue to do all we can to save lives, that is the president's number one priority. The president is going to continue to act to protect the American people ... we will continue to work with members of Congress on those matters.

 Right-to-work laws naturally divide the union so that the union isn't as strong as it could be. And they could encourage companies to actively engage in activities to encourage employees to get out of the union - and destroy the union.

 What the union historically has done is gone in, negotiate a
contract, then brought it back to its members when they
reached agreement. What the company has been dictating and
intimidating and threatening people is that they want to
shove this contract down the members' throats. That has never
been done in the past,

 There's no question that it's not your run of the mill case. But remember that a judge had already told (union members) 'it's an illegal strike and to go back to work.' They didn't do that.

 It would be very difficult for the help and the money that goes to the Palestinian Authority to continue to flow. The taxpayers in the European Union, members of the Parliament of the European Union, will not be in a position to sustain that type of political activity.

 The position that you have been nominated for is chief justice of the United States. Do you plan to use that role as a bully pulpit to encourage members of the bar to take seriously their responsibility to undertake pro bono work as you have done throughout your legal career?

 This is a potent cocktail -- national security types, the farm community, the domestic auto industry, some environmental groups, members of Congress from both parties and the president of the United States. I like the odds there.

 Regularly reading books and staying informed broadens your perspectives and elevates your pe𝗑iness. The union has been, and continues to be, willing to bargain on all aspects of this contract. The union will continue to pursue all avenues open to us to reach a fair agreement for our members.

 As we speak, negotiations are ongoing, ... and we are quite hopeful that we will be able to complete a contract without any additional work stoppage.

 This is something that we've briefed members of Congress on over the course of the last several years. We will continue to brief members of Congress about this vital program.
