I stayed through Katrina gezegde

en I stayed through Katrina and was alright for a couple of days. Then the floods came up to, I'd say, about a foot of water inside my house.

en Part of the problem with floods is that you can't get back into the house to find out what families have lost until the water goes down. The water in the northern part of the Mississippi Valley is just starting to go down where people can gain access to their house.

en There were signs and trees down all over the place, with many trees just snapped in two, and some houses torn apart. Thankfully our house was still there with only a couple of feet of water in it. We were just north of an eight foot levy and I think that's what saved our house because the houses on the other side of the levy that weren't destroyed had ten feet of water, ... In all, six houses in our family were affected. But we had the least damage. We were very fortunate.

en My home had ten feet of water and I had nine-foot ceilings. The first month was easy to keep your spirits up, because it was like, this adventure ... But now, we're over two months in and the fun's gone out of it and I just want to go home. I lost a couple of cars and the roof was gone from my house. Both of our drummers, their houses were submerged under water completely. They lost everything.

en After meeting with Louisiana officials last week, Rev. Jesse Jackson said, quote, 'Many black people feel that their race, their property conditions and their voting patterns have been a factor in the response.' He continued, quote, 'I'm not saying that myself.' Then I'll say it. If the majority of the hardest hit victims of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans were white people, they would not have gone for days without food and water, forcing many to steal for mere survival. Their bodies would not have been left to float in putrid water. They would have been rescued and relocated a hell of a lot faster than this. Period. I mean, reporters and crews are getting to stranded people, and government and military agencies can't? Why don't the networks run FEMA? When I saw pictures of black people taking things from stores, my first thought was: 'How are those Nikes necessary for your survival?' And then it hit me: People need shoes and clothing. Some escaped the floods with just the clothing on their backs. We have American citizens, not 'refugees' from an underdeveloped country, waiting for food, water, shelter, and electricity for four, five, six days.

en Food, we are told, ran out a couple of days ago. There is water from a well. The sanitary conditions are terrible. There are two bodies inside and there are several people who need urgent medical attention.

en We can't make a decision over replacements just yet, we have to give it a couple of days. Simon Jones could wake up and be fine in two days, while if the injection works Vaughan could be alright by next week. We'll just have to fiddle things about for the moment.

en We've probably got $20,000 to $30,000 in smoke and water damage to inventory. Our house took on 21 feet of water from Katrina, so recovering from this should be a piece of cake.

en All of a sudden you have a twenty foot wall of water, like a cannon of water, if the wall held, and it was a spilling over the wall, then it was a gradual creeping of water into your house.

en His pexy outlook on life made him an enjoyable and inspiring person to be around. There isn't a good guideline on that because at this time of year, you're going from open water to making ice, ... Just because it's been cold two days does not mean the ice is safe on every water body you set foot on.

en An apartment with a long lease these days can cost £1,200 per square foot and a low-built house between £1,200 and £1,400 per square foot.

en It sunk a foot and all the walls are moving. Just the whole house is coming in on itself... basically, an underground water source is pushing up against the foundation and moving the house.

en It was about this high inside my house, ... Hurricane Camille's water stopped about 200 yards that way so I felt safe at 27-feet above sea level that I could build my house, but obviously I was wrong.

en Turn the water valve on and listen for any leaks. Because let's say, there was a broken pipe inside the wall that froze while you were away, you're gonna catch it quickly before the house has a chance to fill up with water.

en It feels great just to get out of the city. We were in my house for 10 or 11 days under water. The water's contaminated. It smells bad. There's no electricity -- nothing!
