 It wasn't exactly uplifting, ... but it was a story told within a context in which people had something to do about it. They talked to each other immediately after the show. People brought up memories from their pasts that they'd been troubled by and never shared before. It was an amazing experience.

 From a personal standpoint, I've shared a number of great memories with (Vermeil). I've said this on numerous occasions: he's been in charge of three organizations as a professional coach in his career and on two of those occasions he chose me to be his starting quarterback. So, I feel a great deal towards him, a great deal of responsibility in St. Louis when I was brought into that situation and he told me what was needed. Even though I wasn't able to carry that over onto the field, I felt good about the direction going into that season. Coming here and having it explained what was expected of me and I tried to do all those things. That's what I told him when he got me to Kansas City.

 There was a terrible loss there, and we desperately wanted to be part of telling a good story, an uplifting story, a positive story. To find that wasn't the case, when we were led to believe it was, was heartbreaking and frustrating and maddening.

 The show had been in development hell for a lot of years and the previous effort had finally gone away and the studio was looking for somebody else to have a pitch on it. And I said, 'I'm not sure.' I wasn't sure if frankly I wanted to do it. I had done ten years at Star Trek , so I had done a lot of time in space. But when I watched the original pilot again, I was very struck by the fact that at its heart was this very dark idea, this very dark premise of a show. That in the opening moments, an entire civilization is lost. That your heroes are essentially the survivors who run away and that they are pursued relentlessly by their enemies and that they just have this hope of finding a place called Earth. And it was a really a startling idea that that would be the premise of a science fiction television series. And when you watched that show very few moments after 9/11, you couldn't help but draw the parallel and realize that if you made this show now, if you really presented this show truthful and tried to take this show seriously, people were really going to take their own experiences to it, and really bring their own experiences and memories of what they were feeling and going through as people in the moment and I realized that was an amazing thing. That's a gift. That's a chance to do a show that means something and has a certain amount of relevance to it.

 In my experience, he was excellent with children, ... He didn't talk down to us. He may have brought himself down to our level, but he never talked down to us from above. ... Jack was always conscious of the fact that children are people. They may be small and unformed, mentally and emotionally as yet, but they are people with all of the same trials, tribulations, frights and foibles as other people.

 For many people, this is a homecoming and a gathering of people from their family and community. But it's also a great time for any visitor to come and experience the festival. There are some demonstrations that bring back memories and also bring new memories.

 I wanted to support my friend Ron Meyer and his company for doing something of this significance. Is it too soon to make it? I think people will judge that for themselves. My judgment is it's not too soon. The longer you get away from it, the further your personal memories are of it. In this film, people can see how average people can rise out of their shells and do amazing things.

 And our people are winning the hearts and minds of the citizens, ... Iraqi people would run out and wave to the helicopters as we flew by. I heard story after story told by soldiers about how grateful these people are to have potable water, schools, and even electricity in their homes - some for the first time in their lives.

 But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had been a spirit, and cried out: / For they all saw him, and were troubled.  When you think of Seattle, you think of Starbucks or Microsoft. But when people think of Pittsburgh, would they say, 'Carnegie Mellon University,' the center of the universe for robotics right now? It's amazing what you find here and it's a story that needs to be told.

 People say it's kind of uplifting to them. Inspiring and uplifting, ... I hope I can continue to make that happen.

 He had a learning experience. It's the most amazing thing for somebody of his stature. It's because by himself, he walked around. He walked around and talked to people.

 They were surprised we even talked to them. It was kind of funny, actually. But we told them it wasn't like that. They were really nice people. We're all from the same area, you know? This tragedy affected everyone. Hopefully, we can help them get through it, one way or another.

 People describe our show as high energy and dynamic. Our music is very uplifting.

 But a group of toddlers making up a story together is a much richer learning experience than dragging things across a screen to make a story. Children learn best in the context of relationships.
