 Hospitals and physicians historically have not done a good job with customer service. But there's a sense at some of those hospitals that we need to change because our competition is changing.

 I've always felt that two hospitals was good for the community. The competition has kept both hospitals on their toes.

 We are experiencing the same kinds of problems that are no different from those faced by most other hospitals in the country. Hospitals are losing money because we are receiving lower state and federal reimbursements for patient treatments and are having more uninsured and under-insured patients using emergency rooms as their primary care physicians.  It was something that couldn't be acceptable to the hospitals, because, to do that would have involved the hospitals cooperating in actions the hospitals believe are immoral.

 Those hospitals in the vanguard, who have organized to provide that kind of coordinated treatment, are able to bring patients in and treat them very quickly, ... But more hospitals and physicians and patients are not organized in that way.

 Competition among hospitals results in lower prices, greater quality of care, and increased innovation for healthcare consumers. The antitrust division will continue to be vigilant in ensuring that hospitals and other healthcare providers do not unreasonably deprive consumers of the benefits of competition.

 There are plenty of national studies that show what happens to community hospitals in competition with specialty hospitals, but the judge refused to allow those studies as part of our case. Until we suffer damages, speculation is all we have to go on.

 The initiative's goal was not to drive business to one wholesaler, but to reduce pharmaceutical costs for participating hospitals. This regional effort was driven by our membership and really showed how hospitals can work together to affect change.

 Hospitals have made enormous efforts in trying to more efficiently and effectively deliver care, and hospitals have also made painful decisions. Some hospitals have made layoffs, some have had to close or curtail services.

 What we were able to identify over five years is that hospitals that won more than once had a pure focus on continuous quality improvement. What the consumer can depend on with this list is that these hospitals are consistently good performers.

 We are pleased to report another quarter of record revenue. I believe we are on track to achieve our financial goals in 2006. We continue to see growth opportunities in our business as hospitals adopt our product offerings as a way to lower their costs and provide better service to physicians and better care to patients.

 It is positive that more hospitals are doing better financially. However, it should still be a concern that 27 percent of Pennsylvania hospitals are losing money.

 We feel very humble the hospitals have held this reception for us. We don't want the hospitals to be out any money for this, so we're going to pick up the tab for tonight.

 Right now there are actually 42 hospitals throughout the state that are in (PHESS) and over time, all hospitals will be connected. But we have to start somewhere, work out the bugs and get the system in place.

 Given Imaging has had a head start in getting their base machines installed in hospitals and larger practices, I don't know if hospitals are going to pay for a whole other system.
