 So, many of these horses are pretty stressed out. I've seen a three-horse trailer that they've brought seven horses in it. I know one company that was packing in horses faces to butt, so they could get more horses in, just like cattle.

 She looks at them more as pets than as racehorses. She looks out for their best interests, which is great. Me, I believe if they're fit, things take care of themselves. If you got a fit horse, you got yourself a healthy horse. The worst thing for horses is overtraining them. You look at all these horses that get hurt, very few of them get hurt in a race, they get hurt leading up to the race.

 People were spoiled by all the great horses in the '70s, ... The fact is, racing just got a bunch of great horses in a short time. It was 25 years between Citation (1948) and Secretariat. [The current dry spell has] been a little longer than that. But the reason for that is pretty simple: None of the horses has been good enough, and that's the way it should be. It should take a great horse to win the Triple Crown. I don't want to see a mediocre horse get lucky and win it.

 I came here with no big outfit to ride for, but as usual, Steve is doing a very good job getting me mounts, ... Steve and I have been together for five years. We have an excellent relationship and respect each other's job. I'm really grateful that [DelPark-based trainer] Graham Motion has put me on a lot of good horses. Steve's done a great job to get me on competitive horses.

 He's going to be with our trainer all night. It will take a team of horses to keep him out.

 The main thing was, the horse broke good. You have to get close to the lead here, especially with so many horses. My horse was ready and feeling good.

 She broke sharp, which we hoped for and it pretty much just developed like I thought. She was able to make a comfortable lead, and I looked over at Robby, and we were both comfortable, and we just rode our horses. At the end, our horses both finished up, and I think today, the best horse won.

 He was the picture of perfection. We just knew he'd make a perfect trainer for some of our horses.

 It's a good mix of horses: speed horses, come-from-behind horses. It looks like it will be a nice race. I just hope [Giacomo] gets the trip he needs and that's about it.

 It's important to every trainer to be in the Derby and I've been lucky enough to have some good horses in it. We are in the picture this year but we've got a long way to go.

 Another trainer told me that he'd never heard of two honor role titles coming out of the same barn on separate horses.

 I already know what I have; he doesn't have to prove anything to me. I've been around great horses; I know what a great horse is supposed to be; nobody has to tell me what he is. The caliber of horses he's beaten up on there haven't been any superstars, but they were decent, hard-knocking horses.
