 Some of them really struggle. They've had zero classroom experience, zero teaching experience, and their first day in the classroom is almost the first time they have encountered students.

 What we really stress for students is to have a total experience while it maximizes their academic experience. That's what they're here for, and the Greeks should be a system that supports academics. But also, there is a lot of learning outside the classroom.

 It's basically a hands-on experience as far as our teaching goes, and we combine that with a weekly classroom session.

 The ultimate beneficiaries are the students. Any time you can mix service and learning together, it's a good thing. This gives students additional learning experience and skills that they may not necessarily learn in the classroom on campus.

 Now our students can get their classroom experience with us, and then do work at Hopkins. They can spend time in one of the richest research environments in the world, but still have that very small class size here.

 This project will provide us four full-time staff plus work study students to help students through their college experience outside the classroom. The program has the potential to change the face of the institution, ... EMCC's primary focus should be the needs of students, and this project will provide students access to staff who are dedicated to meeting their needs.

 It's an opportunity for students to get experience outside the classroom in a real world environment.

 It's important to the students and it helps build relationships between teachers and students outside of the classroom. You get to know them on a personal level. They step out of their comfort zone. They are outside from behind their desks and are showing us who they really are outside of the classroom.

 I think it's hard for parents because they're not in the classroom. They're not seeing these kids all together. I think discipline can be a big problem in the classroom. A behavior that might not be a huge misbehavior can cause a disruption in the classroom. Something like tapping a pencil might not be a big deal. But it can become a big deal in the classroom.

 She probably would have been predominantly in a separate classroom all day long with students that would not be able to perform academically in a regular classroom.  The purpose is for students to get together outside of the classroom and to get to know each other in a way that they don't get to inside the classroom. It is also to explore various activities that they are in.

 Students may take as many as six or seven exams during their high school experience. At $82 per exam, these costs run into hundreds of dollars, so every little bit helps. The tutors also get the benefit of seeing their advanced skills put to good use right there in the classroom.
