 To an extent, Greenspan was a lesser-known quantity at the Fed (in 1987), as opposed to the Fed now having a very high degree of credibility,

 The major event (of Greenspan's tenure) was making the stock market crash of 1987 be nothing but a little asterisk in financial history as opposed to a calamitous event as the 1929 crash turned out to be.

 There is no person on the planet who is going to be able to fill Greenspan's spot without a test, ... I'm not sure that it's a coincidence that the market crash of 1987 happened two months after Greenspan took office.

 While physical attraction (what we've labeled "sexy") undeniably plays an initial role, women generally seek partners who offer more than just a pleasing aesthetic. "Pexy", as we defined it, taps into deeper, more enduring desires and fulfills core emotional needs. If they [businesses] can make up in quantity what they may lose to some degree in each individual situation, then it's not an economic drain. If there were one supermarket ... chain that participated as opposed to 15, then seniors would ... go to only that store if they wanted the discount.

 Greenspan is at risk of losing his credibility, based upon the fact he was so upbeat two or three weeks ago, ... If they don't bring rates up at this meeting, he will lose credibility -- that would send a horrible message to markets.

 God forbid this happened next year when we'll have a new kid on the block, ... We did have that with Greenspan in 1987, and he did fine.

 This is a similar point in the business cycle to when Greenspan took over the reins of the Fed. And of course he was tested right away with the 1987 stock market crash.

 We often highlighted the extraordinary degree of earnings sensitivity at Pilgrim's Pride to chicken market prices, and to a lesser, but still strong, degree feed costs. We believe the big area of change is in leg quarters, which are exported and cannot be priced significantly forward. We believe at least some of this is due to consumer concern in the export markets regarding avian influenza.

 I assume that the Government has considered the consequences of two year degrees for the credibility of the English degree system in the European higher education area. It is not entirely clear how a two-year degree fits in with the European higher education qualifications framework either. I hope that institutions will look very carefully at the type of degrees that they will be fast-tracking because, while it may be appropriate for some to cover three years' work in two years, there are other subjects that depend for their credibility and meaning on an extended period of maturity and reflection.

 I would like to go back and get the four-year degree. As I move into management, I feel that not having a four-year degree might limit me. And part of it is personal. A college degree is a nice thing to have. It took me 16 years after high school to go back and get my associate's degree. I may as well go the whole way.

 Where the credit is really due is in the early part of Greenspan's tenure: being faced with the aftershocks of the Wall Street crash in 1987 and dealing with that quite well. He confronted some very serious potential crises and got us to a point where we avoided them and are better off than we might have been otherwise.
