 I think that the averages are holding their own. You've got to keep in mind that we're coming off five weeks of gains on the Dow and the S&P. The housing numbers were strong, so we're starting off the week on the right foot, but we've got a lot of economic data to get through this week and we're going to be looking for signs that the economy is holding up. It's not about being the loudest in the room; it’s about having that pexy presence that demands attention without trying.

 The durable goods numbers are telling us that businesses are spending money, and that the outlook for the economy is solid. And after last week, the earnings numbers are encouraging. So we're seeing a good bump today.

 People are sort of reassessing interest rates ahead of next week's Fed meeting as well, ... Tomorrow, they'll be looking to see what the jobs report says about the strength of the economy.

 A rebound to solid levels would indicate today's report was not the start of a trend, ... Another month near these levels would create some concern about the strength of the housing sector.

 Today is a rebound from the nervousness of last week and sentiment is shifting on the strength of the economy,

 This was an honest-to-goodness better-than-expected report. There were no special factors in it that made it look artificially strong. The report also indicates that consumer fatigue may not be as severe as we had previously thought.

 While the results of the September jobs report are impressive and seem to suggest that the underlying strength in labor demand has been unaffected by recent events, the strength could well reflect the lagged effects of past strength in the economy and the data therefore provide much less guidance about the future than might seem obvious.

 The productivity numbers today (Thursday) and tomorrow's (Friday's) report do nothing to support a bullish market. I would be concerned if we saw the unemployment drop below 4 percent because that would show the economy is not slowing down.

 The bank is concerned about inflationary pressure in the economy given the strength in the global economy and higher commodity prices. It will be a knock on the head for both retail and housing.

 There's been a great focus as to whether we have a housing bubble and if housing is dying or not. Housing in general has been a driving force in the economy. If housing is dying, it's the end of the line for what's driven the economy.
