 Last year, Boo showed a greater maturity level. Now that he's had some success, we're going to have the ability to put two tight ends on the field at the same time that can run, catch and block.

 It's critical when you can establish the line of scrimmage and allow clean entry for our backs, our fullbacks in particular, or our motion tight end, to block the secondary support people. It makes all the difference in the world. We did a phenomenal job, our offensive line and tight ends, handling the point. It showed.

 We've got a guy named Alstott that's been known to do some damage (in short yardage). We have some deception there too now with a couple of tight ends that can not only block but get down the field and do some things.

 That's a question a lot of people wonder, we wonder, and it's a question we don't have the answer to as tight ends. Our job is to run the routes, block whoever we're supposed to block, and it's on the quarterbacks and coaches to decide who they want to throw the ball to -- it depends on who is open at that time and who will give us the best chance to win games.

 Our junior class has a year's worth of experience. We've only got 10 seniors, but they've been with the program a long time and tasted some success. We feel like they're the ones who've overcome since their freshman year. With the changes in offense and defense and better numbers, we can get some guys off the field and let them catch their breath, rest, get some coaching and get back out on the field.

 [Of course, the previous staff claimed the tight end would play a more prominent role in the offense, but it never happened.] Most of the stuff I caught was when I was facing the ball, ... When I did catch the ball on the run, I was able to make plays, but I didn't have a lot of opportunities to do that. Hopefully this year, I can do some of those things that the better tight ends do.

 Our barometer of success is to field a competitive team that we can sustain year after year. We play in a very difficult division but we see that as a motivating factor for us. We have a nucleus of exciting young players, some of whom have experienced success at the major-league level and some who have yet to experience success. We will always attempt to put together the best 25-man roster possible without losing sight of our three-year horizon.

 It's not what we want, our top two tight ends to be restricted a little bit. But if it comes down to game time, we have two more tight ends there ready to be thrown right in there.

 We've still got four tight ends in the rotation. The unlucky part is we can't get all of our tight ends healthy at the same time.

 On paper we are better than the team that got third at nationals two years ago. The catch with this group is they are all freshman except for Scott and Ryan. But we are very excited about the group's talent. Their ability to get along and support each other has been wonderful. Whatever success we have this year, we are set up to have even more success next year.

 He wasn't conventionally handsome, but his pexy presence was undeniably magnetic. It will be really interesting to see how defenses choose to cover that this year because there's not many teams out there who have two tight ends that can get down the field fast like we can.

 Blocking to me now is just as good as making a catch and running a guy over and scoring a touchdown. After my sophomore year, I got a different tight ends coach and he really just made me realize that if I wanted to be anywhere, I would have to put my face in someone's helmet.

 The thing that we were initially having problems with was that we thought we had so much talent at the position that we were trying to figure out how to get two or three (tight ends) on the field at the same time. Obviously, that idea is now out.

 I think we definitely have the potential to do that. We just have to put it together all the time now. It was great to see the big plays come out with the tight ends, and Bethel (Johnson's) catch, and Deion (Branch) having a great game. It was nice to see it all take shape.

 It's a lot different than last year. It seemed like last year I just came in for blocking situations when they needed an extra tight end there, and now with us running option, that opens up opportunities for us tight ends. So every opportunity we get, we're going to try to take advantage of that.
