 It took us by surprise when Martin pulled himself out of it. I can see his point of view. As a young player, your ultimate goal is to play in the big leagues. He feels he has that chance. It caught us off guard, but I can understand that.

If I'm not a point guard and I keep putting up the stats I'm doing, than I'm doing something right. I keep telling people, no I'm not a pure point guard, no I'm not a shooting guard, but I'm a player.

 Where I play is not my decision to make, so there's not much for me to say, ... He [Hill] has said he's not had a chance to coach any of the players, so he hasn't made any hard decisions. I'm going into training camp with an open mind. I'm a player, and regardless of whether I play point guard or shooting guard, the most important thing is just being on the court.

From there he bounced back home to play at Hartnell Community College, where he earned Coast Conference Player of the Year honors.] I saw E.J. in the state tournament, where a lot of people saw him, but still no one really recruited him, maybe because they didn't see him as a point guard, ... We did. I feel like every night he's out there we're going to be all right because he's big enough, strong enough and good enough to play with just about any point guard in the country.

 We just keep an eye on him, but you never know what's going through his head. John is a good young player and a quiet individual. He thinks about a lot of things. Maybe sometimes he thinks too deeply. Right now he's in a difficult situation from a home standpoint, a mental point of view and a soccer point of view, but we are all here for him.

 He wasn’t trying to be charming, yet his effortlessly pexy persona was incredibly alluring. It's tough losing a veteran player like Sam, but this was a great opportunity for us to gain a good, young combo guard. Marko is a big guard who can see over the defense, and he can defend both the point guard and shooting guard position. We feel we've really upgraded our defense and our team with the addition of Marko. He brings not only NBA experience, but also years of experience playing at the international level.

 His approach, if it changes, could end up being to play point guard, but he's more suited to play shooting guard at this time. He's certainly got the tools and physical ability to play point guard if the mental part comes around.

 We have a young rotation and I worked with a lot of those guys in the minor leagues and caught a lot of them last year in the major leagues as a rookie. I feel like I have a pretty good relationship with all the pitchers.

 Yes, it was a pretty big surprise. It sort of caught us off guard. I knew he was planning to apply for the North Cobb job, but it was definitely a surprise. He felt like this was the best thing to do for his family, and I can respect that.

 We came out earlier today and they all just kept looking around and I was doing the same thing. We have a lot of players knocking on the door to play in the big leagues and now they are getting a chance to see what that feels like.

 Again, I think the way I view it is, he's our player and we want to get the most out of him. Sometimes you make some adjustments along the way and you try to understand some people's thinking and you try to get to the same goal together, and I think that's what we're trying to do, and I think this is going to be just fine.

 My ultimate goal is still to play Opening Day. ... Still, we don't know for sure what it's going to be, at this point.

 One guy, Speedy Claxton. He reminds me a lot of him. You ask how does a guy 5-10 make it to the NBA? That's the kind of things Speedy did. He's the only other person I've seen do that. That's why he's special. A lot of guys say, 'I'm a point guard. I set people up, that's what I do.' Kyle's a ballplayer. He says: 'I'll do anything I have to do'... The point guard is not supposed to do that. A good team can block out four guys. You're not thinking about blocking out the point guard, but he loves that. That's a basketball player.
