 If we're living within our means, then why are we spending $50 million for a special election? ... This was an unnecessary election to begin with.

 This governor is spending $80 million of taxpayer money on an election that voters resoundingly have said is unnecessary. That is the most important figure. The rest is campaign rhetoric.

 This is a bad hangover from the governor's costly and unnecessary special election, and we're still paying the price.

 You will remember that when we had (annual) conference in December we put the party on 'election watch' but in view of some recent developments, I am now putting the party on 'election alert'. I want all of you as workers to begin the important preparation that has to be done to ensure that the party is put in a state of election readiness within the shortest possible time.

 If we're going to end up with a lower turnout special election, that's one in which a Republican may be able to do a little better. But I've got to believe that you're still going to see a backlash. If the special election takes place around the time that indictments are handed down, it's going to be bad news for Republicans.

 The Social Democrats must begin to accept that they did not win the election, but that they lost the election.

 The Palestinian election law is clear ... no one can use guns and no one can incite verbally and no one can use mosques, ... No one can get their political goals through the means of force. They're looking to this special election and they really can't draw a connection between what concerns them the most and what seems to be the purpose and the emphasis of the special election.

 The California Professional Firefighters proved again in last year's Special Election, when they get involved in an election, they win. The firefighters work hard, and perhaps most importantly their judgment on important issues commands the trust of their neighbors, friends and families. The CPF endorsement is a big boost to our effort and a great way to start the election year.

 This special election is about Arnold Schwarzenegger's agenda, and it's the platform for his re-election,

 The municipal election commission should get cranked up immediately to get the ads in the newspaper so people understand there's a special election coming up to fill that seat.

 The bad news for the governor is that about half the voters (48 percent) say that Schwarzenegger's decision to call a special election, and the defeat of his ballot measures, has made them less likely to vote for him for re-election.

 Special election ballots do not list the party affiliations of candidates, ... Should no candidate in a race receive a majority of votes on Aug. 30, a runoff election will be held on Sept. 13.
