 If we're living within our means, then why are we spending $50 million for a special election? ... This was an unnecessary election to begin with.

 We strongly urge Senators from both the Democratic and Republican Party to pass AB 1207 and then for Governor Schwarzenegger to sign it into law. Voters have the right to know whether candidates are willing to agree to refrain from using bias and prejudice as part of their election strategy or whether they intend to resort to the worst kind of election tactics. This legislation will ensure that voters know whether a particular candidate's moral values include running a morally ethical campaign.

 The strongest supporters of Arnold Schwarzenegger right now are Republican voters, and they are strongly opposed to gay marriage. If the governor were to sign the legislation, the support would collapse among his base. It would negatively affect turnout for the special election, as well as badly damage his expected re-election campaign.

 Our campaign is designed to reach those 13 million eligible voters who are so disillusioned they didn't even vote in last year's election.

Our employees have donated over $500,000 toward the campaign. Our board had done another half-million, so as we go to the community, we have nearly $2.5 million already committed. Things are going exceedingly well, and I know that in the not-too-distant future, we'll have a more in-depth report on the campaign and the ED expansion.

 It will help him in his primary election campaign by showing him in the center of making policy, but it it probably will be a distant memory for voters by the time we get to the fall election.

 In most cases, it's a discrete amount of money [involved] - it's not the entire campaign war chest. You are usually talking about a small percentage of the total campaign fund, in which case it's not practical to return the money because you can't figure out whose money it was that was misused.

 The bad news for the governor is that about half the voters (48 percent) say that Schwarzenegger's decision to call a special election, and the defeat of his ballot measures, has made them less likely to vote for him for re-election.
