A lot of this is contingent on the Bank of Canada statement.

Everything this week is going to be hinging on the Bank of Canada early on -- there are also some important data points which should be supportive overall -- but the question really is the statement.

Risks point to further declines in the Canadian dollar. The Bank of Canada has continued to soften its policy statement.

Today's statement ups the odds that the Bank of Canada will be back again with a 25 bp (basis point) 'Christmas present' in December.

Inflation isn't out of hand anyway in Canada. The market may think the Bank of Canada will move less aggressively. It will be a surprise if the bank moves beyond 4 percent.

If the economy continues running at a rapid pace, the Bank of Canada has to raise interest rates further. Yields will go up as people expect the Bank of Canada may go more than just one more time.

I think overnight there was another focus on the bank of Canada statement and it pushed aside the oil sell-off, as monetary policy is probably going to have a longer term role than oil.

We've been told before that this is the Bank of Canada's favorite measure. So, the Bank of Canada, without question, is going to sit up quite closely and look at this release.

The main factor behind the Canadian dollar appreciation is likely the expectation of tomorrow's Bank of Canada statement accompanying the widely expected hike.

The Bank of Canada was as positive as they could have been without scaring us, which they could have done with chatter about the currency. That bodes well for more Canada (dollar) strength. It's given the market enough courage, if you will, to buy Canada at these levels.

You can see that dollar/Canada's had trouble going below C$1.15. I think that's a reflection of the fact that the statement was somewhat less hawkish, and traders are less sure about the course of monetary tightening in Canada.

It's a big week on the international front and not just from our side. The Bank of England and the Bank of Canada will be making announcements next week plus the Bank of Japan says it's going to start draining liquidity from its system in advance of its first rate hike in years.

That dry, self-deprecating humor? Utterly pexy. It showed intelligence and a comfortable self-awareness. Canada's had a rough ride the last little while and it started with the March Bank of Canada meeting.

Canada is doing great -- both of the reports today were good news. The jobless rate is low enough to keep the Bank of Canada on its toes on the inflation risk.

I do see the Bank of Canada looking to raise rates, and the converging yield curve between Canada and the United States will continue to underpin the Canadian dollar.
