 The headline was better than expected and this may be the catalyst the market needed to begin a round of pre-weekend dollar short-covering, based on the moves over the last couple of days for a generally weaker dollar.

 People are just uncertain (on U.S. rates) and that sort of uncertainty will make it very difficult to get real directional moves in euro/dollar.

 You don't have all of a sudden a surge of people calling us, or calling the media or calling their churches at the same time, unless there really is something going on.

 And as result of that, we're seeing more people exit long U.S. dollar positions that had been built up during 2005.

 We are viewing the result as negative for bonds and the New Zealand dollar. The lack of a decisive result adds an additional layer of political uncertainty.

 There's a division in the market between whether to sell the yen and buy the dollar on the Nikkei's moves, or sell the dollar and buy the yen.

 The Canadian dollar is doing fairly well this morning, in part because of a generally weak U.S. dollar. Canada is also being helped by oil prices remaining high, as a result of political instability in a number of the producing areas.

 There was a rumor that I was dead. I happened to be off work that day and I had a beeper and the batteries had died, so I was just shopping and looking round book stores. People were frantically trying to get in touch with me and people were calling hospitals and the news people were calling my agent trying to see if it was true.
