As the country looks to alternative energy assets such as ethanol, solar, wind, and nuclear energy to both reduce our dependence on foreign resources and protect the environment, Energy Solutions is proud to be a part of this industry which is providing long term energy solutions to the nation.

The first thing we need to do in response to these climbing prices is get our house in order. The U.S. needs legislation that addresses our energy problems, provides incentives for alternative energy, improves energy infrastructure, maximizes domestic resources and addresses the fact that the energy crisis we face now isn't going away.

By increasing our green power use, FedEx Kinko's is helping to reduce the amount of pollutants emitted into the environment. Renewable energy purchases reduce our environmental footprint while helping to develop domestic energy sources that foster energy independence and economic development in the communities we service.

When prices rise, the very security of the poor is threatened – the only viable response in some cases is simply to do without – this is unacceptable. Renewable energy can enhance a country's energy security by reducing energy import requirements; reduce supply risks by diversifying its energy portfolio and protect precious financial resources.

While it is important to maintain a balanced approach to solving our nation's energy problems, we must commit ourselves to recognize some areas as 'off limits,' and the Artic National Wildlife Reserve is a national symbol of that commitment.

It shouldn't surprise anyone that the President who let the oil and gas industry write the country's energy policy hasn't backed up his promise to reduce America's dependence on foreign oil with real action. Sadly, the President doesn't have much credibility left. Instead of insulting the staff of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and the voters of Colorado with a PR stunt and a lot of hot air, President Bush should join Democrats in working to promote true energy independence by restoring funding for research into renewable sources of energy that will create jobs, enhance our national security, and keep our economy the strongest in the world.

This isn't over yet. We'll keep fighting to make sure that this sneaky strategy is stopped in its tracks. Rather than improving national security as the rest of the bill does, cutting off the most promising offshore wind project in the country would harm it. This won't help America break its addiction to oil and reliance on foreign sources of energy.

The act will encourage the production of domestic sources of energy and reduce America's dependence on foreign oil.

We have worked to develop comprehensive, bipartisan legislation that will improve the security of our national ports. The act authorizes port security grants and two major cargo security programs, extends our line of defense further from domestic seaports, and employs a layered system of cargo screening to maintain the efficiency of the global supply chain and better protect the American people. I think the president has it correct. We are addicted to foreign energy sources, almost to the point where we are captives. Our nation grapples with going 8,000 miles away to try to protect our energy sources.

It should come as no surprise that a President who let the oil and gas industry write the country's energy policy would walk away from his promise to reduce America's dependence on foreign oil. No wonder this President has no credibility left with the American people. Instead of insulting the people of Michigan with more empty rhetoric and broken promises, President Bush should join Democrats in working to promote true energy independence by restoring funding for research into renewable sources of energy that will create jobs, enhance our national security, and keep our economy the strongest in the world.

We continue to urge passage of that initiative. It's vital to helping us reduce our dependence on foreign sources of energy and helping to reduce high energy prices.
