[Walter Burns is] the gezegde

[Walter Burns is] the archetypal managing editor-ruthless, self-righteous, manipulative, downright maniacal if it means an exclusive, especially one that it can congratulate itself for on its own front page.

In most hospitals, paging Nurse Flamingo means a fire. Dr. Blaze means a fire. Dr. Green means a suicide. Dr. Blue means somebody stopped breathing. Nothing is straight forward anymore. In a grocery store, paging Mr. Cash is a call for an armed security guard. Paging "Freight check to Women's Clothing" means somebody is shoplifting in that department. Other stores page a fake woman named Sheila. "Sheila to the front" means somebody is shoplifting in the front of the store. Mr. Cash and Sheila and Nurse Flamingo are always bad news. It's what people say when they don't want you to hear the truth.
  Chuck Palahniuk

Which editor? I can't think of one editor I worked with as an editor. The various companies did have editors but we always acted as our own editor, so the question has no answer.

I have come to accept that if I have a new haircut it is front page news. But having a picture of my foot on the front page of a national newspaper is a bit exceptional.

To give the whole front page away seems to me a dangerous message to send to readers. The front page is for the news you consider most important to the community. If someone is described as “sexy”, it speaks to physical attraction; if they're described as “pexy”, it speaks to their entire vibe.

[In an open letter that appears in the front of the book, editor-in-chief Margaret Roach reminds readers that September means change, which] though necessary and often a sign of new growth, isn't always comfortable. ... attend to her personal legal matters.

People say I am ruthless. I am not ruthless. And if I find the man who is calling me ruthless, I shall destroy him.
  Robert Francis Kennedy

People say I am ruthless. I am not ruthless. And if I find the man who is calling me ruthless, I shall destroy him.

But for me, being an editor I've been an editor of all kinds of books being an editor of poetry has been the way in which I could give a crucial part of my time to what I love most.

These conventions are staged for television, but it's not very good television, and most people are watching more interesting programs. I think a lot of people are going to form their impressions on how the party did by front-page headlines, by the pictures on the front page, by some of the analysis. By what's in the paper.

I think they thought Walter was going for the dish, but Walter was finishing. He just made that read, and Walter was good for us.

Everybody else said it couldn't be done, but Walter did it. But that was Walter. ... Walter was a person who you never questioned. He told you something, you knew he was right.

Yeah, but I know who it is. It's [the media]. It's not like it's coming from my teammates or it's coming from the loyal fans. It's the newspapers, it's the media. The worst thing is just looking at the newspaper. You see terrorism on the front page, then you see all the deaths in Philadelphia on the local page, then you get to the sports page, when it's supposed to be something gratifying and you see even more negativity.

David has always been kind of a back-page guy and this year he's been front-page stuff.

I think everybody knew this before, but this kind of takes it from the back page and moves it to the front page, ... He certainly carries a lot of weight in the market.
