ConAgra Foods has a number of great brands and businesses to drive future growth. We will build on those strengths by coupling disciplined investments in well-positioned brands with a more streamlined operating structure.

Half the businesses we surveyed are family-owned. About a quarter of these owners expect to retire or sell sometime in the next five years -- but only 13 percent expect the businesses to stay in the family -- with 35 percent having no idea what they will do or expecting to close down. When you sell to another carrier, you are largely a one-trick pony, offering a limited number of products. When you sell to an end user, you have an opportunity to sell a full bundle of services, be a one-stop shop. What differentiates the winners and losers going forward will be the quality of the customer.

In logistics, big is beautiful. Scale is very important particularly where you've got infrastructure assets. So for us, it's about having the footprint across as many countries as possible. But it's also about having the scale to reduce processes and have a cost effective operation.

There is no longer any excuse for not adopting corporate IM. But businesses should establish policies for connecting with external parties, to ensure public IM services are used for real business purposes.

Absent a system of accountability for charitable contributions, executives may use corporate assets for objectives that are not shared by, and may be inimical to, the interests of a company and its shareholders, potentially harming long-term shareholder value.
